CTX3030 MAXIMUM DEPTH MODE.

New member
I have found a site where I dig out a lot of silver coins. In detail I have managed to dig out 6 grosso silver coins http://www.tribalsoup.com/grosso.jpg
I know there are more in that field but I need to program my CTX3030 to reach it's maximum depth mode. Does anyone have any recommendations or maybe a ready to use mode I can use to dig everything out?
I would really appreciate some help since I am new with this.
Thanks

Set up in ferrous coin separation mode use pattern 2 witch is open screen . Go to pinpoint mode and choose pinpoint sizing target trace and lock it in . As you use it the screen in target trace will keep building all targets while it is locked to clear screen for new data push pinpoint to unlock pinpoint target trace and then lock it again for new data . This has to be done to keep the screen clean to analyze new targets as the screen will get to many target trace red spots if not refreshed . This is the deepest way to run any ? just ask . sube

From my study the only way to increase depth is to increase sensitivity. Other settings such as patterns, modes, pinpoint setup, sizing, gain ... are post-processing tricks to help differentiate between non-ferrous and ferrous targets or to decrease falsing (or increase target separation). But for depth (without getting a 17" coil) you'll need to switch to Manual sensitivity and increase it as far as you can handle it.

Above about 23 the depth increase is amplified, but the detector will be more unstable (falsing on soil minerals sounds somewhat like non-ferrous hits, which is confusing). But again, if you want max depth to find silver coins .. turn up the sensitivity (and try to learn to distinguish those non-repeatable blips and sparks from real targets). It can be tiring to hear but it works.

Frog how deep are we talking 12+ cause if it is that would be great for old parks with the right soil condition, meaning a soil that will let a coin go that deep.

Does the 17 " coil justify it's price in depth? I have a similar site that I've pounded to death and I know there are still coins but are below where my stock 11" coil is accessing. Please give any ideas or info you could share. Thanks in advance, JodyReb...

Great post, John. What I've been thinking all the time. Auto is a worst case.

Interesting method, Sube. Have to try that at my black sand nightmare (suggested "6") sites.

I believe that the increase in sensitivity does not put more power into the ground to go deeper, it just amplifies the tiniest of return signals into your programmed audio range. Using the correct modes (ferrous, coin, ground, whatever works best in that soil), discrimination (none usually), coil and sweep speed might be the best approach. If I were positive there were good deep targets I think if I could find one, then mark it, dont dig it, and then experiment a bit with different separation modes, auto or manual sense, to get a feel of what may work best right there. Then create several programs to switch to in particular areas. PM Jason in Enid or GK, or review Sube's writings. They know their machines.

It neither increases power output nor amplifies anything. All it does is change the threshold for something to break over into the accepted range to be evaluated. Power output is constant. Think of it like sunglasses. The brightness coming at you stays constant, but you can put on all different amounts of tinted lenses. Some let almost everything though, others block out almost everything but very brightest.

In rerply to the question; is the 17 inch coil worth it?
I use the 17 on several sites. I am certain that I am getting substantially deeper than the stock coil as Ive hunted this site for over 10 years and know the area well.
Here are the limitations I would find to getting the same results in different sites; If the ground is trashy with alot of targets then the 17 will be harder to use. Hunt it out first with the 12 inch coil.
if you are in ground that the targets are deep but not to many close together then use

Continued;
than use the 12 inch coil first and hunt out all you can then use the 17.
If the ground is easy to dig in then Ill use the 17 the whole time but if hard to dig then i use the 12 first.

The 17inch in more difficult ground will still get greater depth but you will want to be familiar with how it pulls to other targets due to its large size. I dont use it on house lawns but ball diamonds, and fields, on the beach it is way awesome when the targets are a bit apart.
If i get good sound (audio is king) the numbers are jummpy but in the right spot mostly, and the ID trace is in the right spot, then I dig a few and investigate. Sometimes the entire target will disappear after getting a good signal for the first 7 iches or 8 inches. I KEEP DIGGING and more often than not its a good target.

If you know ;what your target should be ID ing Then dont use much discrimination and use your head and knowledge rather than your discrimination, Ill see that there is something making the machine react and if the numbers, sound and traget location are in my range ill dig a bit to investigate. Like I say not in nice lawns.

I dont over kill the sens, I want it stable but sometimes a bit high will increase the targets however I get more nails and false.

These are just some of the tips I would give you about the 17. It was way worth it for me and I have very mineralized ground here.
Good luck.
