CTX Weekend Finds Day 1...really starting to Impress me!

This was this weekend's hunt with the CTX. Hope you enjoy.

Day 1-Saturday 6-9-12

I wanted to see what the CTX would do in cleaning up a yard that I had already hunted with both the E-Trac and the Deus. I went over a grid portion that I had cover with the two other machines. First thing that showed up was an Indian head.

My next few targets were wheats. I had a grand total of 12 in this yard.. 5 came from a pocket spill.

Next came my first gold charm. It is labeled on the back of the pin, "Gold Front". Probably nothing real, but coming from a depth of 7 inches it still shined like gold..

Possibly plated

The next signal was my first silver of the day this 1944 Mercury dime.

Then this tiny silver thimble.

Sterling Silver

About 3 inches from it was this toy ring. It has a cowboy hat attached.

Not sure what this partial find is. It looks like the cupped end of a spoon.

Unknown find- possible spoon?

This buffalo was the deepest coin I have found so far. It was at least 9 inches. It was sort of impressive because it sounded like it was at 5 inches. I may have the volume limit too high. Depth reading showed 8 so I wasn't sure till I got down to it. The Jefferson came shortly after.

I found a third silver with this strangely bent 1925 Mercury dime.. Not sure how it was bent but looks like a mower hit it. Never found one that old hit by a mower, but it was around the 6 inch mark.

Next was a very deep tiny gold locket. Same size as a dime, and was at 9 inches.. Not really sure how I heard it, but again it gave a strong signal and was actually deeper than my 7-8 inch plug.

What I think is the coolest find of the day was this One Drachm 3i apothecary weight. In the days before electronic scales and prepackaged medicines, pharmacists used a balance beam scale to measure the appropriate amount of medicine to a customer. One would put the appropriate weights on one side and then pour the powdered drug on the other until the balance was centered. I had never seen one before or even knew they existed.

My final target of the day, was also a cool relic. This is my deepest target so far at 11 inches. After researching this piece, I found that it was one side of a brass pocket knife. The other side would have said "The Patriot Shoe".

Wow Evan, very impressive considering that you had been through the yard before. Did you notice lots of iron around the targets that might have caused the other machines to miss it? I guess the Deus will hit near everything, just not as deep.

Looking forward,
Albert

Yes, there wasc quite a bit of small to medium sized nails.. in several holes you could pick up several in one grab. After finding the bent dime I moved to a less hunted part of the yard.... Not grided but hunted several times.

Amazing finds!!!
Great work!

I would say that you got bit by the CTX bug that has been going around, no known cure.........

So nice finds on the yard that you have hunted before.:twodetecting::minelab::cheers:

WOW this just make me want mine more but my ctx3030 won't be here till Wednesday im taking it to a pounded out site where numerous detector's have been we will see what happens

Totally impressive. Thanks for sharing! HH, Nancy

What are you guys using to dig with to get to those 9"+ targets? A Lesche hand tool is inadequate once you get the initial 4-5" plug out and maybe an inch or two more. Do you just keep working away with your hand tool or break out a shovel?

I've found the target depth to often be an inch or two deeper than the CTX is telling my. So, when I see a signal at 8" my first thought is, "do I really want to dig this target?"

I use the Samson T-handle It cuts a very clean plug.. I cut about a circle with it and it works fine.

I've actually ordered a Sampson but even it has just a little over a 7" blade. Is it easy to get a few inches deeper with the Sampson by hand? I'm also thinking that using even a small shovel is going to get you tossed out of a park, etc.

BTW, great finds!

Awesome.. I will be totally honest the first 2 days I had it, I was not liking it at all... I was using the basic coin mode and auto+3 sensitivity and I dug a ton of junk, because I was basing how to run the machine by my experience with the E-Trac.. they are definitely two different machines.....

When I cut the plug it tends to pull out more than just the length of the blade....It doesn't appear as menacing as other shovels.. and It doesn't scare landowner's as much either...
