CTX vs....

Beyonder

New member
Having read some crazy posts the last few days, I have to put my two cents in(zincolns BTW). Truth is, is it the machine or the person who uses it. The CTX won't find a darn bit of silver, if the operator decides not to dig. ANY machine provides information only, not decisions. Here is where it gets tricky. The info given by the machine helps make the decision to dig. Will a novice with a CTX find more silver than an expert with a radio shack special? Probably not. I started out with a tesoro(great machine found the most rings with that, and the depth was amazing) however, it did not provide me with enough info. I stepped up to a whites spectrum xlt when they just come out. I found more but never found V's or barbers. I actually quit at that point thinking everything was gone from these sites. 10 years later, because of youtube, I bought an etrac, found a few Vs and barbers at those sites. I had the etrac for 2 years and traded up to the CTX and found more at these sites. Was it the machine, or my experience, that helped me find the stuff i missed? It was both. The machine gave me more info, and my experience told me what it was.

My last time out, I hit an area that was noiseless, until I removed all discrimination. I found an 1886 indian that hit at 5-29. I would never have dug that. The info the CTX gave me told me to. My next signal was a 12-15, 1936 buffalo nickel. 10-09 turned out to be a silver war nickel. and a 12-11 another silver war nickel. I missed these the first 10 times out, because my discrimination blocked them. My experience told me to to change things up, not the machine. Would I have found these with any other machine? I think I would have. My father with a safari found a morgan, a peace, 2 bens, a walker and a few other goodies in virgin ground. He doesn't even know what hes doing. So luck and where u hunt are big factors too. Those without that kind of luck, have to rely on our experience like myself.

In closing, the machines are only as good as the operator who uses it. I will say, that yes I am etrac/ctx expert. I know my skill will find anything, if I hunt long enough, and I don't get lazy lol.

Peace out cub scouts!

I agree with what your saying it has alot to do with the user and the skill level of the user and you are 100 % correct location location location If it is not there no skill or machine will find it. With that said, I think the issue on this forum( in my opinion) seems to be the people who have never owned or used a CTX, getting on here and bashing it and those of us who first bought them. That is ignorance it would be like saying well the latest model Ferrari could not have that horse power and could not be any better then my Chevy Caviler. What purpose does that serve ? I for one have first hand knowledge of what the CTX can do. I have seen it and I know it is way improved over my SE PRO in speed, recovery and target seperation. So my level of skill coupled with imho the best machine out currently only increases my success. Which, at the end of the day is all we all care abou,t or we would not invest the time and money we do. I said, it before and will again do what works for you and be happy with what works best for you. Just for Pete's sake do not throw rocks. Unless you are prepared to have rocks thrown back and that goes for both sides of these issues. Just my 2 zincolns worth !!! HH all

I absolutely adore my CTX. Like you, I used an E-Trac for 3 years and boy did that make learning the CTX so much easier! It felt like an old friend right out the gate, one with new super powers. The experience I gained with Mr. E gave me the understanding of the language the CTX was speaking, so the learning curve was very short. I know several guys who have switched to Minelabs from other machines (all experienced detectorists) and they all vary in their success. You have to put in the time and "know" that once it all clicks the CTX will bring home superior finds. This machine never dissapoints - I hunted an old fairground today that my brother and I have pounded and still came out with 6 Indians - amazing.

Doc your going to have to stay out of the fairgrounds nothing but trash there lol. Yes location location location find a spot that still has a lot of coins hid by trash and the ctx well take care of you. That means study sites you are going to hit and when you get there observe what depth and where the coins are coming from.

I do know that my knowledge of the AT-Pro running no discrim and hearing iron audio really helps me use the CTX in open screen. Haven't posted my finds yet this week, but I've been 4 hunts so far and gotten silver on the last two, in spots I've gone over with the AT-Pro before. Nuff said, I'm loving the machine.
