CTX used prices

Not sure where you are seeing this as on Ebay the used CTX's have been averaging around $500.00 more than E-Tracs.

I am not saying anything bad about 3030 just seen one for 1500, they have dropped almost 50% price

I have old explorer II was 1000 new 12 years ago I saw used Explorer II for sale for 750 seem to be keeping value better

Sale price and asking price are two different things just as suggested retail and actual new price are dramatically different. MSRP on both the etrac and 3030 are about 25% more than what they are available for , new with full warranty , if people would shop around. Most other types of "tools" depreciate 40 to 50% as soon as you use them so it seems detectors in general do a pretty good job of holding their true value.
The fact is , people paying full retail are paying too much.

Used machines in good condition, and not too old, generally sell for around 40% less than brand new sticker priced units. That's fairly standard for most makes and models. It can vary though, depending on whether a certain model is particularly hot...... or not. $1500 for a used CTX is not uncommon.

Although i dont use a CTX i have noticed a massive drop off in 2nd hand prices in the UK as well, this is not only on Ebay but also some of the main outlet that deal in 2nd hand detectors.I certainly would not be happy after i have seen such a drop off in such a short time duration, the other main Minelab machines like the Etrac and 705 range and other main machines like the Deus also hold a decent price as well.

The Garrett ACE range especially the 250 model hold a very decent 2nd price,i guess because the beginners market is so active and they are the ones that upgrade.

The CTX is a very popular and good machine, but i am wondering if its the weight issue that after folks buy this model and then find they cannot swing it for a great amount of time,of course i could be wrong on that assumption but could well be possible as it is a heavy old beast,it makes no odds how ergonomic it is the weight is still very heavy compared to other top flight machines.

This brought a smile to my face :) What does this tell you dan93 ?

Yes you're right: Exp. II's get snatched up quick when they're on the sale on the open market. ESPECIALLY if you can find one with a sunray inline. Guys that tried the successors in the Explorer evolution line (SE, Etrac, and ... yes.... CTX) have often lamented that there was something better/special in the Exp. II's tones they preferred. And while it could be argued there was "faster processing" in the Etrac or CTX, yet I still do quite well in iron-ridden locations (considering the power house that it is, anyhow!).

So considering as how the CTX can't use an in-line probe, a lot of guys actually prefer to the Explorer II.

I keep seeing them for $1500-$1800 used, which is 30-40% off from a new one at $2500. That seems about right and comparable to other used prices on detectors. But the fact that we are seeing so many could just be that its the 'popular' detector that new people are buying, realizing they arent finding gold after their first few times out, and then selling. Well its just one theory. Another theory is that people do not want to buy them used so when they get listed they sit longer. What I mean is that if you are already spending $1800, why not just spend another 30% to get it new and get the warranty? I know its one detector that I wouldnt buy used especially since the repair costs are $$$.

You are forgetting/missing one very important thing in what you stated.----Minelab CTX 3030 three year warranties ARE TRANSFERABLE to subsequent owner(s).
