I am really enjoying swinging this machine. I have the User button on the CTX set up to the previous mode, and I have been alternating between a trashy park pattern in 50 tone conductive and the Combine mode with ferrous-coin separation. I will use trashy park unless I start hearing a lot of nulling indicating that I am over the iron, at which point I easily switch over to Combine with the touch of one button. Also, I hunt my relic sites strictly in Combine.
I have made great use of the Geohunt feature. Like many of you, I begin my Geohunt by starting a Waypoint, and then setting another Waypoint at each of the four corners of my search area. That way, I can perform a fairly accurate grid search without having to carry around stakes and chalk line. On one Geohunt map, I noticed that I found a string of four keepers that seemed to be in line. Must have found a spot that a previous detectorist missed during his sweep!
The CTX really slays the Civil War relics. With the E-Trac, I didn't find nearly as many bullets and such. My relic sites are literally littered with iron -- square nails and agricultural iron. Combine mode with ferrous-coin separation is the key.
In the past few hunts, I managed to find two silver half dollars, though one was actually an attempted silver ring! I pulled a tiny bit of gold in the form of an old gold-plated ring. I also found my best Civil War relic to date -- a brass Union breastplate! I dug the breastplate from a pounded site that many detectorists have hit over the years, and that I myself have hit with the E-Trac.
Please enjoy the attached video. I'll hunt some more when the weather gives me a break!
