CTX Sounds and Files

I am so used to what targets sound like on the E-trac that I'm afraid it's going to take me a while to tell what the CTX is indicating. Does someone have a useful setup to get me close?

Also, I have a Mac Computer. Does anyone know if I can download CTX files and just drag them onto the CTX from my computer desktop?

Thank you!!!

I for one think that trying to get a new machine to mimic previous machine or its sounds defeats the purpose of a new machine. Each machine has it's very own personality, and that goes for the same two machines out of the box side by side. These little quirts is what is needed to be learned to master a machine. That doesn't happen for a few years (depending on your hours spent hunting). A hunter with a 25 year old machine will out hunt a new hunter with a CTX 3030 hands down for the first few days and maybe longer just because he knows his machine inside out! Use the machine and about 200 hours into it you'll get the feel for the new tones. Your already miles ahead by owning an E-Trac.

I guess I'm just wondering if there's a specific setting for each BIN that would get me close to hear what I know is silver vs. pennies

Regarding your Mac question. No, you can only do a firmware upgrade of your CTX from your desktop. You cannot download modes and patterns directly. You will need to put a copies of Windows on your computer in order to download modes and patterns, etc.

If you are running in 50 tone Conductive, you can expand the range of tones from a low of 75 Hz to a high of 1200 Hz. This will provide the most "separation" of individual tones for each of the 50 CO numbers. In addition, Low Trash and High Trash Separation provide TID numbers that provide a slight "numeric difference" between copper pennies and silver dimes (12/43 or 44 vs. 12/44 or 45). FE-Coin and GRD-Coin will provide more of an "overlap" (typically 12/44) on those copper pennies and silver dimes. JMHO HH Randy

Thank you Everyone! I appreciate the insight and help!

I have my CTX set up with a multi-tone mode that is very close to what I ran on my E-Trac (you can download it from the CTX Resource center if you want to try it. As far as connecting your machine to a Mac - I know there are many posts on this forum discussing this - I believe that the Mac sees it as a mounted drive and you can drag files into the folders - just not sure if you can do modes or not. Are you able to send a screen shot of the pattern for exchange to my e-mail?

I am definitely ignorant when it comes to the CTX because today will make my 3rd day as a new owner. But I do find it shocking that the difference between a COPPER penny and a SILVER dime is one to two points on the scale. Yes they are close in size but their metal composition is far and away different. As advanced as the CTX is, and I love it, I cannot understand why what is under my coil is such a mystery. I admit I come from a VDI (V3i/XLT) and object identification (GTI 2500) world. Those machines could tell me with high precision what EXACTLY was under the coil and not leave me guessing. I'll be honest, unless I am digging older coins in an area I skip Zincons all together, but I dig silver dimes without fail!! This will be troublesome for me in the future I am afraid. I am getting plenty of finds with the CTX in my hunted out areas which is impressive, but I would rather make fewer finds that are quality finds, than many low budget or waste of time finds like new pennies and such. Trash is trash with all detectors which can't be helped, but accurate ID has been with us for more than a decade.

Yes I know this is brutally honest, but that IS why I pay the premium price - to not waste time digging rotted out Zincons and such. I know with my V3i I rarely dug garbage ( l skipped em and other members of my detecting crew dug em and validated what I skipped) and I am sure the CTX has to be better than a 2 point variance on such a broad scale. What am I missing here?

Thanks,

The Shark

This is about copper pennies and dimes, not newer Zinc pennies, those should come in around a 12-36 if the CTX is like the E Etrac. Copper pennies and dimes were a very close number on my Vx3 as well as any detector I have used.
