CTX on the Ides of March

Well I was able to get out for a couple of hours this evening at a local elementary school. You can tell by the picture... I think this is the most pennies I've found in a long time. Most of them are coppers. I've learned what the zincs ring up at, and I've kinda starting leaving some of them behind. I also hit several dimes too. I didn't hit any quarters today. The signals that I hit that rang up around the 12-45 12-46 area made the trash pile. The pinpointing is a little better for me but it seems to be my weakness still. I don't know if it's some of the trash interference of it's just not being able to find the sweet spot on the coil yet. There were a couple of coins that I had to chase. I'm thinking that when my 6 inch coil get here it will be easier, especially in these areas where there is a lot of trash. I tried the normal pinpoint mode today as well because I read in Andy's book that this was like the ratchet kinda pinpointing found on other brands of detectors. I'm not sure I used that on the DFX or not... Anyway... I don't really care for the normal pinpoint option right now... The sizing pinpoint selection seems better to me. I also tried to messing around with a varied swing speeds... I don't know if I can say I saw a lot of difference from the way I attacked the ground with the DFX. I don't like a fast sweep speed and I don't like a real slow sweep speed. Ahhh let's see.... The trace pinpoint and the trace target option are really nice features. I like using them. Anyway... These are just some of my learning rants. Feel free to share anything back with me. I enjoy constructive criticism and suggestions.

Thanks and HH

Gosh, it looks like you're off to a good start. As far as pin pointing, Sube has a thread about that you may want to check out.

You did excellent your trash pile looks like a pros very few iron objects most iron I see there is round iron which we all dig , very hard to eliminate the round hits .And yes the 6 will pinpoint better but the stock coil will get easier after you had more time behind it .WTG sube

I too switched to sizing for pinpointing. Just seems easier for me, after awhile I started being able to pin point much better. Just takes a little time is all. I'd say you you're off to a great start!
