CTX no battery seal?

Dailydigger

New member
Just got the 3030 today was wondering if I have to use the battery seal because it seems like new version is much thicker than the old when I close the clips it feels like I am going to snap them off because they made the new seal so tight. I am just going to run without the seal to save the flimsy clamps. On land only.

Old or new version battery? I assume you wont be using in the rain? Moisture is a funny thing here in Fl. I water hunt and use the 2.5mm O rings just because a battery and all the electronic can cost more than those clips. You can get smaller ones cheap.

New version battery I think k they over did the thickness of the new seals those clips are not going to last long. I just hunt parks in good weather.

Maybe get ahold of some of the old red ones. I would be wary of going without seals in case you get caught in the rain or there is dew on the ground.

Nothing is going to last forever....... but why be part of the problem? Get water in there you can fry the battery...... and a lot of other components. You can get smaller sizes on line at "The O-ring store LLC" on line. Im a salt water hunter so i cant take chances and feel in my case those clips are a cheap repair. But to answer your question...... common sense tells me no with the new version in dry conditions you wouldnt need it.

If it really bothers you, I'd take tcornel's advice; use the old red gasket. But imo the new thicker gasket will wear in pretty quick and the tension wont be as much as when it is new. And if you do hunt without a seal, might be a good idea to carry some electrical/duct tape with you to do a temp seal if you get caught in the rain.
(and if you are in salt air, USE THE GASKET)

You can run without a gasket just fine, You are a 'land' hunter. But in case of rain or other moisture you would not be protected. You could carry the gasket in a ziplock bag and put it in as needed and most likely be alright, Getting the old thin gasket and 24/7 use would be a far better solution. Just using the new thick one is probably the best course. No matter what you do some random sand or like dirt can defeat your seal. The safest practice is to be overly cautious and use a proper lube on an official gasket that is PERFECTLY clean at all times. Given the cost of a new unit and the length of time to service a unit it seems to me "Better safe than sorry" is very good advice.

I have used it a few days and it seems to be getting looser. I tell you what I currently have 70 plus detectors and after using this ctx it has this detector found me a merc and a 1950 dime long with 5 wheats today. I have hit this same park and same area many times but the ctx pulled them out I am very impressed with this detector. It will be last on my list to be sold.

Next time you get seriously bored because the ground is frozen or something, I want to see a picture of those 70 detectors!!!
