CTX in non-motion mode - time limitation?

I don't know for certain, It seems the only way to run the CTX 3030 in non-motion mode is to hold the pin pointer trigger down. Would this have detrimental effects on the unit over time? I see that pinpointing drains batteries more rapidly.

I'm looking to use it with a data logger that requires non- motion setting.

Pinpointing drives the VCO audio and display which uses battery power - but there is nothing inherently dangerous to the detector in running in all-metal all the time. What is essentially ground balance compensation that measures and removes changing mineral effects probably isn't working while in PP, so the detector will begin to react to the soil as it drifts out of balance.

The next best thing would be detecting with an open screen without setting any discrimination - you would not have to hear the constant VCO tone, which would be a plus.

I played around with using the CTX slowly in the pin point mode in a park that had so much EMI I couldn't stand it. In pin point mode it doesn't seem to freak out by the EMI at all.

What I did was to slowly sweep with the pin point activated and using "sizing" rather than "normal" looking for small coin sized signatures.
I did find a few clad coins around 6" this way.

It is weird to function this way, but is doable.

Thanks so much for the great answers. Like the 2 box detectors, GB disabling, along with constant audio output, is what I think I'd need to feed into a data logger. The theory in the newer ones is that the electronics is better at reading and color coding signal than the human ear.

Perhaps I mis-understand something, but why don't you just activate the pinpoint lock feature?
That way you don't have to constantly hold the pinpoint button...just press it once to turn PP on...that's why we asked for it in that (one) software upgrade.
(I hunt that way all the time.)

Well, Mike... Ummmm.... I thought I'd read that manual thoroughly. Even again before starting this thread, but I saw no mention of a pinpoint lock. How would a guy activate that? Just pressing the pinpoint button and instantly releasing?

And the, pushing and releasing again will shut it off?
