Well it wasnt the water that did her in. Surprisingly it was just rinsing off after a dry sand hunt. Water made it into the USB plug(suprise supriseI should have replaced the port with a proper one but Minelab told me it would void my warranty. Hopefully when I contact them on Monday they will do the right thing.

Are you sure it's dead? I actually got a few drop of salt water in mine. I cleaned it good and dried it out. I fired it up a few days later and it has worked perfect since and that's been over a year ago.

I tried cleaning it out and blowing it out with a duster. It worked for about 10 min turning off and on okay. I thought it was fine. Hiked 30 min to my spot for the day. USB connected!!!! The USB cap and connector are Amphenol UTW. Also known as the most unreliable connectors out there. The techs at Mouser Electronics could not believe there was a $3.14 connector on a $2500 machine. I'm just fed up with this machine. Im not able to fix the issue due to the warranty. Im almost hoping my warranty is up so I can remedy the junk connector with one rated for more than splashes.

Yeah, "USB Connected", that was the message I got after leakage occurred. I used RadioShack Precision Electronics Cleaner on mine. It worked, I guess I got very lucky. Good luck, hope things work out.

Did you reached Minelab? If it is still under the 3 warranty it will be fixed free for you.. The Minelab Repair Center at Kellyco is where you need to send it for repairs, no techs in Chicago now....If you want to talk to them call 1 888-949-6522 X165

Guys, just my 2 cents worth. It won't help jaxtabking's situation now but maby someone else
in the future. I grew up as a farmer, salesman, and again a farmer working with heavy equipment.
I own an AT Pro. (supposedly water tight to 10' same as the CTX) As much as I like my CTX I would
never submerge anything but the coil under the water and at that, it would have to be sealed around
the connection at the bottom. There are just absolutely too many ways and places that water could
possibly get in. They have it warrantied for 3 years so you're good to go if it leaks but o-rings fail, seals
fail. My solution is to wipe it down everywhere with clean damp cloth and keep a screen protector on it
and I clean that with cotton t-shirt material and computer screen cleaning material. So far so good.

SORRY TO HERE
I just paid 200.00$ to replace screen but now i am up and running. things do fail and, but i have used a o-ring and so far so good

on the usb port. did you have it loose or it just wore out. hope its under 3 years??

we all have been there !! best of luck

After contacting Minelab I ended up replacing the USB port myself with the proper one rated at IP68+ for ROVs. They were only willing to replace the port with the subpar Amphenol IP67 port. For the record the Amphenol port should not be trusted for more than splashes and is not manufactured for frequent use.

IT IS A REAL PAIN
but now i also put screen protector and better o-ring on battery comp. i hope that is it !! someone else is sending back 4 circuit board failer

i am no2# ctx as the first 1 died . all you can hope 4 is its still under warranty on the next breakdown!!! but i run the !@!#$ out of it and this

one is still going strong!!

I put the Teflon plumbers tape on my USB threads..
hi, so it's been about half a year, have you had the machine in the water a number of times, and if so how has the teflon tape worked out?

Hello Jaxtabking,
Could you send me a link to where I can purchase the IP68+ USB Port used for ROV's that you installed on your CTX3030 . I have not yet submerged my CTX3030 under water yet as I am sure the original red oring is just not suitable . Every time I finish using my detector on the beach and have to recharge the battery I find deposits of sand inside the battery box and the red oring falls out of the battery box when the battery is removed.
Thank goodness MineLab don't make boats?

as much as I would like to go swimming with my ctx, did it once one leak and I did everything suggested to stop it I have read on here and yes it was the USB port that leaked, for me just not worth the risk to take it in the water.

if I want to go swimming with a detector it has to be rated 100 ft plus other wise its splash proof, ie use in the rain give it a wash off etc..

pick up a Tesoro sand shark for 500 $ if I fry it well bad luck but 3K in the water well that's to much of a risk for me.
