CTX beach hunting Observation and questions

Finally made it to the outer banks to test the new coil on my CTX. Without a doubt it is much smoother with the new coil, really a different machine all together. Poor conditions so very few targets but did notice an interesting observation that Jason in TN mentioned. We have without a doubt determined that Auto is the mode to run on the beach (sorry Minelab) but hands down it runs much smoother and you can run a higher sensitivity in Auto. Here is the funny thing, in Auto the sensitivity would run up to 31? My question is how can it show a 31 in Auto when Manual will only go to 30?

That is my first question so now brings on my second one. The machine runs great in Auto +3 in some places down to just auto in some areas but my question is this.

The detector could be running all the way in Auto showing 25-30 but when you turn it off and then back on between hunts it comes on in Auto 19. As you start sweeping the coil in about 2 minutes it will pop back up where it was before you turned it off from 25-30?

I just want to say it could be that there are less minerals here but my detector is like a completely different detector with the new coil.

With the one that came on the machine it was erratic and almost unusable but works really well with the new coil. Too bad I am not here after the hurricane because now the beach is so sanded in there are no targets.

2 hours yesterday produced 3 coins and two pcs. of grey matter as VA beach Max would say.

Maybe digger knows what is going on with two questions I had?

Thanks for a great forum and all the help. Hope soon to post some of my finds from 4 relic hunts. Very impressed with the results so far in my pounded spots, can't imagine what I would find in a new spot.

One other great trait of this detector is how high you can run it where EMI is present compared to other detectors.

My bullet patch I tried a Fisher F75 and it was so erratic I dug one percussion cap in an hour where I would have found at least 6 deep bullets in the same time with the CTX. Just a few of my observations so far.

After turning it on it takes a bit for it to read and sample the soil under the coil and the EMI in the area and then it decices where to run finally sensitivity wise.

You can pump the coil up and down and it speeds up this process instead of sweeping the coil for a few minutes it's what we used to do with the Etrac.

Is your new coil a replacement of the stock 11" or did you get the 17" for the beach? What kind of depth were you getting on the coins.

I've been thinking about the 17" for those Florida treasure cost hunts. I'm thinking it would go real deep which could be helpful down there. You can go without signals for a long time on the treasure beaches by the wrecks sites. I've hunted these areas over the years with my Excal and Surf PI for reference.

Thanks for the report on the Auto Mode

Stock coil, have not tried any others. Jason in TN has tested the 17" coil, I think there's a thread somewhere on the large coil?
Dug so few targets can't give a good report on depth but in auto +3 it was running all the way up to

31. Based on my relic hunting results I am getting bullets at a measured 14" so convinced it will go plenty deep. I hope to get one more test in before we have to leave. If no targets I may hurry a few in the wet sand to test?

Jerry good to have your detector is running good at the beach now I to have saw the 31 sensitivity at the beach too. If you found some grey matter there may be a ring or two around keep at it. Hope you find something good looks like that area may get some beach erosion soon. Would be Awsome to be able to hit the beaches after the storm.

Jason, figures the weather is running us away just when the beach will get errosion. Still think this machine will have a learning curve but much better than before.
