CTX Back From Rehab Does It Again

Had to send my CTX in for repairs after only having her since September but must say it was a very smooth and quick process. Great service from Minelab.I had also posted in October that I had found a nice gold ring in fresh water the first time out. Well the first time out with the "new" CTX in the salt/wet sand I found 2 gold rings ! One is a beautiful ,little,14k filigree ring and the other a 4gram 14k nugget ring with a small diamond. The before cleaning of the nugget ring shows how much copper leached from the gold in the saltwater.Must have been there awhile since you never see14k gold with so much corrosion. The weird thing is the ring is marked 14k but now tests 18k on both scratch and electronic gold testers .Could the leaching of the copper from the gold leave a purer karat gold ?

Awesome finds!

Wow, great finds. Do you happen to recall what each rang up as (Fe-CO)? I'm aware gold can be all over but just curious.

I believe the nugget ring was12-11/12 and the smaller ring 12-03/04. With the numbers and where I was looking on the beach I called each gold ring before I dug them. I also agree the gold in 14k gold is very stable but what about the 42% copper that it is alloyed with ? I believe alot of copper "corroded" out of the ring leaving more gold in the alloy . Don't really know, just thinking .
