My wife and I, along with my pal Matt, decided to drive 4.5 hours to a go Minelabbing and National Metal Detecting Day 2017 event in Galesburg, Illinois sponsored by the Illinois-Iowa Treasure Hunters Club. It was their fifth annual event. Matt and I both swung our CTX's. It rained all night before, so the seeded finds were thrown on the surface to minimize damage to the park land. There were two group hunts and one kids-only hunt. KG and Ringy, the Diggers, were there as special guests.
We had an amazing time. The park and the city of Galesburg were both beautiful. Matt and I found a good deal of stuff, including some silver that was native to the park (not part of the hunt). It was also great seeing some familiar faces there from the Missouri CW Relic Hunters group. Over 200 folks total attended the event, despite the rain. The skies dried just before the first hunt (I still wore my rain gear and looked like a Haz-Mat responder) and the sun was beating down by the afternoon. I didn't win any of the raffles or token prizes, but found a semi-key date Indian cent! We will definitely be going back next year!
