CTX and Keeping the Battery Dry

I have been using the CTX in the water thus far without any issues. I use compressed air to clean the seal between hunts. However I have not done that much hunting with it yet and I wanted to start securing the battery compartment with a rubber band(s). This should help prevent the clips from accidentally coming undone while in the water. Has anyone found and ideal size/brand of rubber band?

When I went to the Atlantic City NJ hunt this past May 18Th sponsored by Mine Lab. They gave out a little bag of goodies to all registered contestants. They gave you a Mine Lab hat, T-shirt and a rubber band was included in the bag.I knew exactly what I was going to do with the rubber band. It measures 3.5" X 1/2" when in a relaxed position. I don't know if the rubber band was given by Mine Lab to go around the CTX 3030, that is what I am going to use it for.It struck me as strange to put that in the bag, Not every body has the CTX, I guess it can be used for other things.Check with Mine Lab it is the perfect size. I don't know where to buy them, when the two I have go.

Thanks for the heads up on the size of the band Jim! Knowing what size should make it easy to find at either an office supply store or someplace like amazon.com. So have you hunted in the water using that band and it determined that it does in fact make it much harder for an accidental release of the battery clips? I am guessing that it would need to be somewhat tight for it to be effective.

I checked out the inside of rubber band and it said Minelab on it. Give them a call or check with your dealer. Thats what they are using them for.

Go buy some fresh asparagus at the store, the bands around them (in the larger bunches) are perfect. OR You can go to a store and buy a trailer tire inner tube and cut it up into strips that will last a long time.... the salt water does destroy the rubber bands and inner tube strips in time so you will more in the future.

Had to send in my CTX for repair because saltwater got in and de-plated one of the contacts in the battery compartment. When discussing it on the phone, they told me NOT to use rubber bands around the clips, and that it was a bad idea.

That I don't know. I just know that the first time I used the rubber band is when I had my first leak. I won't be using anymore rubber bands, but I haven't had any issues or scares with my clips coming undone.
