ctx 6" coil

Those of you that own a 6 inch coil, do you use it often? Do you feel it's worth investing in early on? Thanks for your imput.

The 6" coil is a valuable tool in high trash areas, it's deep also. It continues to impress me. I used the stock coil exclusively for the first year, I now own all three coils minelab puts out. What are you looking for out of the 6" coil?

I wouldn't be without it at trashy sites. There are just some places where you need a smaller coil footprint to get between all the nails, the pulltabs, etc..

Well I basically hunt trashy (aluminum mostly) sites as I hit a lot of hammered old parks as primary locations. So, I huess I'm looking for separation mostly. Just wondered if people felt the 11 was enough to cut through most trash. Guess I'll have to take it out and decide.

To be honest...I have only used the stock coil once since I bought the unit. Since then I have had the 6" on exclusively. It is an awesome coil.

did a test in a park new trash and iron below took all I could get with 11" and then went back with 6" and got the same again, granted no test like this or any other in ground is perfect for many 100's reasons but results are results.

so short answer is don't leave home without it.

The 6 stays on my ctx 95 percent of the time it well amaze you at what depth this little coil will go to .As far as the 11 to the 6 you need them both the 6 will not disappoint you it is a demon in the trash if you have places with heavy trash Where the coins still are you need the 6 . sube

The 6" coil is the shiznit for curb strips!

It really forces me to go slower and really pick through the trashier parts with ease.
6" dimes are no problem with the 6" coil in my mineralized soil.

So depth is the sacrifice. Do you think 4 inches is the depth difference? Or not that much?

Depth is definitely not the sacrifice, at least for me. In my mineralized soil, 90% or more of my finds with my 11" coil are 6" deep or less. The 17" coil is similar.
My 6" keeps right up with them.

I would say the sacrifice of using the 6" would be ground covered over time. However, it does allow you to move through trashier areas and pick out the goodies where the 11" or the 17" would have to process a lot more material per swing to give you a target ID.

I see no depth loss with the 6 you can crank sensitivity up more with the 6 as to the 11 . Air testing each coil are only a inch different that's air testing 10 for the 6 and 11 for the 11 that's on a dime in the ground depending on mineralization they each loose some .But the 6 can be cranked higher than the 11 making it a wash .It does suffer coverage but that's not a issue hunting in trash because your not going to whip threw it slow is the key here to analyze all signals .The 11 in heavy trash is hard to separate signals when there are so many . I have found dimes and Penny's up to 10 inches deep using the 6 not many but they have to be there to find .my soil is moderate mineralization .My auto sensitivity reads 21 to 17 with the 11 inch coil in the same ground I can punch the 6 to 28 to 30 without a ton of clatter which the 11 would produce get it and use it depth is not a problem coverage is the only thing you well give up . sube

My two cents...The six stays on my machine 90% of the time. Love it!! I mostly hunt for old coins around old home sites. To me (and the test I have done), I am loosing about 1/2 inch at most. I often turn up the sensitivity a little bit more and the coil handles it well.
