CTX 3030 Waterproof Headphones Minelab or GG?

So.... My CTX 3030 will be here tomorrow, I already have the 17 inch coil and 6 inch coil on order, along with the yellow minelab waterproof headphones.

Should I wait on the minelab headphones or should I cancel my order and get the grey ghost headphones for the ctx 3030 when they come out?

Any ideas? Whats the difference between the two? I heard minelabs were uncomfortable and had low volume?

If you ever used the Excalibur headphones (same Koss they used for the CTX) - you will know why most of the serious people detecting have switched out the phones.
On the Excal it voids the warranty because it's hard wired - on the CTX - you can just plug in the other brand...

Thanks, I wonder when the grey ghost's will be available?

They have always been available. Check with your dealer......they have been out since before the CTX because people have been using them on the AT pro.

I would go with the Gray Ghosts, having had a pair for 8 years. Not sure about the waterproof variety but I imagine they will be up to the same standards.

It all comes down to your personal liking. I never tried out the koss waterproofs but can imagine they are not great when looking back on previous koss phones. The dealer I ordered mine through invludes the gg's free along with a custom adapter and a 5 year warranty on the modified phones. Could not resist:drool:

So... Where can i get the grey ghosts that work with the CTX 3030? I thought there wasn't an adapter made yet for it?

Did you really ask that! Koss has never come up on atop 10 list of headphones.

Question. The Koss water proof headphones can be completely submerged correct? Can the GG's be completely submerged or is it just the plug that is water proof?

I wish I knew where to buy a set of GG's for my CTX 3030.... I have no idea where to get any. I thought the connector wasnt made yet.

Call Detector Pro.....Gary is a great guy.....he manufactures them. You can look at his site on the web. He is also a findmall sponsor.

So this whole time I've been waiting for minelab headphones when GG already has a waterproof pair that will work with the CTX???

Yes.....but they may need an adapter....if that is the case then you may want to get them from New England Detectors because he manufactures the adapter. NED is closed today but will be open tomorrow, cant remember their hours. Talk to them and they should be able to give you the run down. I havent recieved the detector yey so cannot give you the full scoop. Hope this helps.

With the wrong adaptor or an adaptor that Minelab does not approve could leak and destroy your machine along with your warranty. Be sure and ask the right questions. All electronic parts made for Minelab are made in Australia by Minelab. I myself would not use a chinese or other off brand connector on my machine that is under warranty. To each his or her own. JMHO. HH :minelab:

Good point and one that will be considered when I recieve it. Im pretty sure that the connection on the machine is already waterproof though if I'm not mistaken. The adaptor would be so the GG's would work on the machine?? Guess we'll find out.

The CTX 3030 is made in Malaysia so Chinese parts may juse be better.

Both brands can be submerged completely

Looks like the socket is waterproof and the cap is just to keep out sand and dirt. Not to waterproof the socket. So cant see an issue with using other headphones.

"Waterproof headphones connector

The waterproof headphones connector is an eight pin socket at the back
of the CTX 3030
