CTX 3030 water hunting without headphones???

Hello All,

I bought a CTX 3030 that should be here next week and have a few questions. I don't have underwater headphones yet but would like to hunt in the saltwater. Can the CTX be submerged without headphones and if so, what needs to removed or what is the procedure? I understand the supplied headphones and the WM-10 are not waterproof. I have downloaded the instruction manual and didn't see anything about submerging the unit.

What are your preferred underwater headphones and any issues or problems with them?

I have been using a CZ-21 and Excalibur (Blue) for several years but wanted to see how the CTX compares and hopefully will find more with it. Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
James

Few ways to use the CTX.....with the 1/4" headphone module but don't submerge. Remove the module (above battery) and use the plug (found inside the module) to plug up the waterproof headphone jack, this enables use under water although I don't know if you will be able to hear the external speaker underwater.
You can use regular headphones and the wireless module but that won't work with the CTX submerged.
You can use any headphones wired with a CTX waterproof connector and totally submerge the unit.....headphones only if rated waterproof...
Best waterproof headphones.....touchy subject, and more up to personal choice dependent on your hearing and comfort of the individual brands. Two options are.... Koss yellows (Minelab), Grey Ghost Underwater, both of these are readily available but volume is subpar.

I suggest lots of reading using the SEARCH function of the forum, loads of information there so you can form a good decision on headphones.

Hi James,

It's pretty pointless using the Cee Tee Ex in the surf w/o proper headphones and the same applies to using it submerged, especially if you are in a position to [ submerge ] yourself.
When dunked WITHOUT blocking the headphone socket the speaker craps out and can be gone for quite a while after emerging from water...24hrs not uncommon.

So, ADVICE is, get waterproof 'Grey Ghosts'...

Happy swimming...
