CTX 3030 LCD Screen

Black vertical lines growing in My sight. I called ML about this and they said that the LCD is going out and I’ll have to have it replaced. I haven’t had it any deeper that 3’, and I take pretty good care of My investment. Yes it’s a work horse and I am to blame for that, but treated with respect. Anyhow I asked if this was due to the water, and the Rep said that it wasn’t external or internal reasons. That this just happens. I mentioned that it should be covered, but it’s out of warranty, and this thing just happens. Hmmmm.... Pretty hard to accept with that price tag. I sucked it up and sent it in today. I was told that it was $200 + $75/hr for labor. That’s brutal!! No more water with the CTX. And this machine has pulled a lot of Silver and keepers out of hunted spots for Me, and I will back that up with proof!! That’s why it’s being fixed. If it hadn’t done Me a great job it’d be in the trash. Thanks for listening. And letting Me vent. Randy

I had it happen to one of my machines as well. Mine had never been in the water, that was 4 years ago and I was quoted $185 plus shipping. I've seen it on at least 8-10 machines on various forums since that time.

It's the crappy LCD..They use......I had to have Two fixed ..one under warranty...one not...Also had to have the back power supply fixed..400.00( for just the power supply part)

All LCD's can go out, just the way it is. I've seen a few from different brands become unreadable and get lines.

Most of the time it don’t happen in Two to Three years.. like the 3030 does.

That may be so, the ones I've seen were old "new" stock after stored. They went bad on the shelf. The standard temperature range of 0°C (32f)to +50°C (122f), I'm sure they are not the extreme temperature models.

How long did the repair take? I just sent mine in for the exact same thing. Mine has never been near the water and babied. Not even a year old so covered under warranty but still had to pay for shipping.

Agree w assessment - CTX 3030 is a great machine but it has it's problems; from the LED screen going out after 3-4yrs, water-proofing problems and did I mention the really crappy charging system? I'm on my second charger and I have finally, after 2 yrs, figured out that the battery will NOT charge unless the battery is less than about 50%. I can charge mine for 17 hrs and if it starts at about 60% (for me after about 5 hrs use), it will not charge and the green top left light will keep blinking forever. If I hunt for 7 hrs, about 40% battery remaining, it will charge for about 4-5 hrs and at some point the green light will stay on steady and the battery will be fully charged. BUT, I still haven't figured out why it will sometimes charge the battery up full but the top left light just keeps blinking and blinking...Like I said, crappy charging system.

Well, that seems to be something you need to figure out because it is not typical. Either your battery, charger, or wall adapter. I’m thinking wall adapter.
I’ve replaced my battery cells and it charges the same - way faster than I would expect, regardless of prior usage level. (The new cells have more capacity too)
I do see the behavior you describe for the WM10 though. It apparently fully charges and will go solid but if left longer it may go into a blink cycle again. I’ve never had either unit go dead in use on me and I search 5-7 hours a run.

Replacement displays are available online for diy’rs for ~$90.

My ctx 3030 had a bad screen also, I looked every where online to learn how to replace the screen my self and couldn't find anything and so i decided to buy a screen and make my own video on how I did it.

Here is a link to my video https://youtu.be/ffH0YyLFsg8

Here is a link to the screen i bought it looks identical to the original, both have made in japan on the back and it is only a little over 60 bucks.

This is great info. Thanks for posting it.
