CTX 3030 ---- Does it Float???

New member
This may be a bit premature but since the CTX 3030 appears to be a good water machine does anyone know it if floats when you let go of it to dig your target???

Bill

From the picture it looks like it's partially submerged but the control console does float above the surface.

I was wondering the same thing.

I'm going to say no. Can you imagine how difficult that would be to use in the water if it floated? The picture is just that a picture. Most likely photoshoped together. I believe its simply supposed to give you the impression the machine can be used in water.

I read here somewhere that it is close to neutral and would sink, but not like a rock. Forget the thread.

For sure you want to be connected to it.

If you want it to float you could always slide one of the below onto the stem ;-)

Here you go, tested it in the pool

I wouldn't go by the picture, the same picture shows the headphone adapter attached as well and that is big a No No. The picture is for eye appeal only.

Thanks for the video spdnj. At least if we are in shallow water it won't go sinking to the bottom if we let it go.

I still don't quite understand when it's totally waterproof. Is the headphone transmitter waterproof? So if we put the receiver in a dry pac when wading is the transmitter going to be safe if the ctx is dropped in the water or splashed?

Or, is it only waterproof when the headphones are directly plugged? And, is it a proprietory jack for the waterproof headphones or a standard 1/4" jack that should support non-minelab headphones?

Not premature.... I posted this two weeks ago.....

Great video! Thanks for taking the time to do that. It sounds perfect to me i.e. a slightly negative buoyancy. So in deeper water it will allow the user to get the coil to the bottom. And in shallow water if you let go of the detector with the coil sitting on the bottom it will simply stand in place.

Digger, after reading that post I am still unclear if the wireless transmitter module can be dunked in the water whithout damage. Is the wireless module that connects to the detector a different module than the one that provides the standard headphone jack or are they the same module? If so, are they both waterproof or rain proof? If not, will we need the minelab waterproof headphones to be able to use the detector in shallow water (where it might be accidentally dunked) and in the rain?

Is NOT waterproof, if you drop it in the water and it fails your at fault. The module mounted on the machine with the 1/4" jack is for you to use the supplied Koss Headphones or your choice of Headphones, it is NOT waterproof. If you accidentally drop it in the water it may or may not cause damage and is not intended to submerge. If you are going to be in the water and want to be 100% safe, remove the headphone module on the rear of the machine and attach the purchased separately waterproof headphones. The below video gives you a video reference and verbal instruction.

There is a Wireless Audio Module (WM10) and there is the Headphone Module. There is no Wireless Transmitter Module.

The Wireless Audio Module is this......

The Wireless Audio Module is not waterproof. Some have indicated that they may buy a waterproof container to carry it in while wading. If you are using the Wireless Audio Module for wading, I'd suggest you remove the Headphone module and plug the waterproof headphone jack with the plug supplied inside the headphone module.

And this is the heaphone module ......

The headphone module is not waterproof. The heaphone module accepts headphones for land hunting. If you might expose your detector to water, it is recommended that you remove the headphone module and either use the waterproof headphones, or plug the waterproof headphone jack with the little cap stored inside the headphone module. To install the waterproof headphones, remover the headphone module and it will expose the plug for the waterproof headphones. If you are going to dunk your detector and don't want to use the waterproof headphones, take off the headphone module and screw on the little cap (enclosed inside the module) over the jack where the waterproof headphones would go.

The module on the back of the detector is not the wireless transmitter. it simply converts the waterproof 8 pin connector to a standard 1/4" connector. It can not be submerged either.

Yeah. I understand now. Somewhere I got the idea that the wireless transmitter was a module that plugged into the detector. Thanks.
