There are many threads about this topic, have a look.
Didn't own a Etrac so can't compare. I do own a ctx and it rocks!

KEEP YOUR ETRAC! :stars:

I still have my E-Trac but since I got the CTX 3030 it gets a lot of rest. Yes the CTX is better balanced. I have found that iffy signals are just about a thing of the past with the CTX. Even with the 11 inch coil trashy sites are easier to hunt than with the E-Trac because the CTX seems to lock on to good targets much much better. Of course the CTX is waterproof and does a great job at the beach or fresh water sites. If you hunt civil war relics the CTX is a lot better than the E-Trac. I like the fact you can use a lot of different coils much cheaper with the E-Trac. I have found many more good targets in areas that I thought my E-Trac had cleaned out. This is based on the fact that I have found deep targets and marked them with wooden golf tees then went back with my E-Trac and was very surprised that over half I could not get a peep out of my E-Trac. I even changed settings on the E-Trac which helped on some of the targets but not all. Auto+3 is a much different animal on the CTX than Auto+3 on the E-Trac. I use manual at times on the CTX but not nearly as often as I did on the E-Trac. Now these are a few examples of why I use the CTX more than my E-Trac. I am not saying the CTX is better for everyone but in this old red clay dirt here in Tennessee it works better for me. If you live close by come over and take mine for a spin to see what YOU think. It comes down to a few things. The combined mode of the CTX is like TTF of the E Trac on steroids. In TTF you need to look at the screen every high tone. Not with combined mode. You are listening for that one special high tone. The CTX is much quicker than the E Trac in trash and iron. In fact I would say the recovery speed of the E trac is terrible and has cost you many finds that you will never know about. Target trace is yet another feature that can help determine if you should dig or not. It comes in very handy in private yards where every hole counts. You have the wireless feature, waterproofing, and GPS features that may or may not mean anything to you. I will tell you that the CTX can be updated for even better technology. Minelab has done it once already. The CTX is now a great beach machine compared to what it was. The only draw back is losing the Sunray probe. The CTX in my opinion is a much better detector than the E Trac. Whether it is worth the price is up to you. You might be surprised what you can buy one for if you shop around. The sponsors are great.

i just sold my etrac and i thought it could never get better than that machine !!! thank you 3030 !!!

Boy you ask a lot of questions Micky....

Knowing you all of these years, you and I both know that you are just going to have to try one and see if it fits your hand.

Yes Larry i will 1/2 too???? Mick

I remember that i washed my e-trac in the shower when it was dirty.
At the next day there were water-drops inside the display.
It needed a week on a air-dryer to get the water out of the e-trac (but it went out completely).
The CTX can be cleaned right under the shower, after you closed that head-phone hole.
And thats also an advantage.

The E-trac is less sensitive against scratches then the CTX.
Partly because the CTX just looks very hi-class like an expensive car,
while the e-trac was rather a grey fish.

The battery of the CTX will also hold longer.

Will it pay out ever?
Unless you are really lucky and dig some gold, the money you put into the CTX will not pay out, the E-Trac is more machine-per Buck.
Also those targets that the CTX finds which the e-trac may not find - i want to see them. It can't be soo many. 1 of hundred?

Another thing is the Discrimination Advantage.
I'd say that the CTX knows better then any other public available machine, whats down there.
The trash/coins ratio of the CTX with an experienced user (and only then) will possibly be the best at the time of this writing.

One disadvantage of the CTX is its size and weight. While this is a very stable machine, with a long-lasting battery that holds 8-13 hrs,
just this fact has a price in term of weight and size. You can't just "hide it in a bag" as easy as for example a DEUS.
Its even a bit larger then the E-Trac.

And from mystand point also the UI (User Interface) of the E-Trac was easier to use and understand.
You could easily change "Deep" and "Fast" and other settings.

On the CTX you will need to directly manipulate your search mode or copy them to new modes first.
Also generally you need to press more Buttons (or hold them) to get something changed, compared to the easy to understand Men
