:csflag: Went detecting with Mountain Man for a couple hours this evening... YEEEEEE HAW!

[size=large]He found a good spot and luckily (for me) he invited me along. Wind was howling when we got there and it was a bit nippy. We had about 2 hours before it would be dark and it was a really big place. After swinging for about an hour with only a couple decaying shotgun brass in my pouch to show for it, I got a good hit, cut a plug, turned it over and this was staring back at me!... CAN YOU SAY BIG HORKIN' CONFEDERATE STAFF OFFICER'S BUTTON! This is the way it was sitting in the hole, however I had brushed it off to see what kind of button it was. As soon as I saw the eagle, I started walking towards Greg with it still covered in dirt. He saw me coming and said "UH OH!" He confirmed that it was a Confederate staff officer's button, and said it was the granddaddy of buttons, worth between $500-$600. Greg was more excited than I was, he even did the "Chicken Dance" and we "High Fived",,, well don't want to get all mushy here but Mountain Man was really happy for me.

You know, you walk for endless hours, swinging a high dollar detector, until it feels like your arm is going to fall off. Over hill and dale, through glen and bog, mile after mile, day after day, season after season. You dig wheel barrow loads of trash and junk out of a thousand disappointing holes. And then on those special occasions, you swing your coil over just the right piece of ground and magic happens.. time stands still for a few seconds as you stare and realize what you just found, the history you are about to pick up and hold in your hand, and you realize once again why you do it.

Also found a Spencer bullet, Spencer case, some lead seals. Thanks Mountain Man for the opportunity to add this one to my collection. Tomorrow's the day.
