:csflag: Went Civil War relic hunting this afternoon, here's the dig'um ups...

It was a slow start today. Finally after 2 hours I got into a little spot and found a few things. First was this brass napsack hook, my first whole one.

A few minutes after finding the brass hook I found the first of six bullets.

This was interesting; I was detecting along and got a good signal, looked down and saw that a fresh large plug had recently been cut where the signal was. Hmmm. Sometimes the yahoos will dig a plug, find a piece of junk in it, and instead of carrying it out of the field they'll throw it back in the hole and put the plug back over it. This is what I thought had happened here, but it was a good signal. So I opened the hole back up, took out quite a bit of dirt, but could not find the target. Figuring it was just junk anyway, since someone else had already dug it, I covered the hole back up, then took a swing over it before I left. Man, that's a good signal. Opened the hole back up; the target sounded like it wasn't very deep, but I kept taking dirt out of that hole until I found this rusted thing nearly 13". Banging some dirt off it I see it is the hammer off a Civil War musket. Haven't had a chance to ID it in my book yet. Anyway, cool find and somebody else missed out on it.

Here's my take for the day. The wire thingy along the bottom I found the other day, but am including it in this post.

I had a similar experience a few years back.Dug a "piece of junk" everyone else was passing up, when I turned over the oval piece of junk,it had "U S" on the other side.
