[size=large]I soaked the ring in a solution of vinegar and lemon juice for 30 hours. It didn't eat much of the rock, but it did clean the ring a little. [/size]

[size=large]Here's a shot of some of the conglomerate still clinging to the ring. I took it in the basement and setting it upon an anvil, I took a small punch and hammer, and after about 10 minutes was able to chip the rock off.[/size]

[size=large]What came out was not encouraging; a very cheap ring that you possibly might have gotten out of a box of cracker jacks in the 1930's. I was really bummed out. How it got buried 8" in a Civil War relic incampment is beyhond me; oh well, it barely beats a jab in the eye with a sharp stick. [/size]
