:csflag:Well, I've been tick bit, chigger chewed, poison ivy infected, near died of heat stroke and have a blister on my foot from digging relics but

Went out by myself yesterday scouting for new relic-infested ground. One of the places I had high hopes for was a high knoll near a creek. If I was going to camp in an area, this would be my choice. Searched the area for an hour and a half, and only found one brass belt rivet... I was really disappointed. The only reason I believe that the soldiers weren't here was that this field was possibly woods during the Civil War. Worked my way back to the other smaller knoll where I found the music lyre. First thing I found was this brass thingy, I didn't know what it was. It looked to me like a fancy sword holder. Its approximately 6" long, one end is broken off. Found out its a reins harness holder (well I'm searching a cavalry camp, duh!). It is my understanding that when the reins hung down off the horse's bit, this was attached between the hanging reins under his neck to keep them together... I thunk. Also found in the same area more pocket watch parts. One of the backs of the watch had 2 holes punched in it; my theory that this was made into a child's string toy long ago, where you insert a string in the 2 holes, wind it up, and make it spin. I was easing around the knoll detecting when I heard a challenging grunt eminating from this thicket. At first I thought it was a black bear, and it certainly had my undivided attention.

Well, I eased on around the tree and found out it was the bull. The temperature was 95*, and he was too big a sissy to come out in the sun and get me.

This place I'm detecting is pretty good, but my best find was sharing it with my friend Greg, and getting to watch him do his famous chicken dance after finding a nice rare Confederate button.

These are the relics I found so far this month. All but four of the well over a hundred bullets in this box came from this new site, and all the relics aren't even included in this shot. I have a handfuls of Spencer casings, pocket watch parts, etc. You can click on this photo to enlarge it.

A closeup of the better stuff, but its not over yet. I have fresh batteries in the detector, the alarm clock will be set for early in the morning. Mountain Man and I will be out digging up more relics with smiles on our faces.
