Shed a tear for the South, or shout for the Union, no matter what your views were of the Civil War, you can still appreciate this fine collector's cup that comes in a presentation box.

The cup is printed with a scene called "Salute of Honor" by Mort Kunstler. It depicts the surrender of the South in April of 1865, in Appomattox, Virginia. The Confederates are surrendering and stacking their arms, folding and furling their flags. The Union army stands at attention, and salutes the remaining hardened veterans of Lee's once mighty army. They had just been in a week long running battle against superior Union forces, many of them barefoot and half-starved. Many of their horses and mules were fallen by the wayside from starvation. When Lee's supply train, which held food, munitions and clothing was captured at Appomattox and his army surrounded by the union, Lee had no choice but to surrender... or be annihilated.

The Civil War cup will be won by the person who comes closest or exactly guesses the number of red vines in this bowl. The guess can be high, or low, but the closest one wins. In case of a duplicate guess, the person posting first will win. One guess per person please. The winner will be announced Friday evening, 7:00 pm eastern time.

Thank you, happy New Year, Welcome back Art.
