Before I found the buckle (see post below), I found these two flat buttons fairly close together. Isn't that a cool color on the big one? When they first come out of the ground they look like this, but after they dry its gone. Found another one a short time later.

The site I'm detecting dates back to 1740, and was used by the soldiers as an emcampment. Those encampments include the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Post-1812 militia troops, and Civil War troops. I have found buttons at this site from all three war eras, so musketballs of varying sizes are not an uncommon find here.

This storm front rolled in, and at first I thought it was going to go to the right of me. But with a loud crack of lightning followed by the boom of thunder right over my head, I hightailed it to the van since I was out in the middle of a huge pasture, and was the only lightning rod around. I took this picture from the van while waiting for the rain to stop. After arbout 35 minutes it passed with blue skies opening up behind it.

Back out in the field, I found this cleaner bullet, one of 3 Civil War bullets I found.

Digs for the day, including the buckle. * sigh *
