[size=large] Went the the monthly Central Virginia Civil War Collectors Association meeting last night with Mountain Man. I entered the militia belt plate I found in two pieces in a hay field last month. One of the guys there had found a whole Civil War cannon shell, fuse and all. When it was time to show and enter your find I had to get up in front of all these guys and give my little presentation of what I had found. Believe me when I say that I am not, nor do I want to be a public speaker. In fact the last time I spoke in front of a group was in that line-up the cops drug me in for where I had to say "Gimme all your money or else" three times to this scared looking lady (it was good to see you there again Fred). Anyway, I gave my presentation on how I had found half of the belt plate, and after 15 minutes of continuous searching, found the other half. But I didn't really think I had a chance against that shell. I could see them tallying up the votes, which were written on a small piece of paper by each member. The pile for the shell and the pile for my belt plate were about equal. There couldn't have been more than 1 or 2 vote difference. When the dust had settled, I had won my second Best Find of the Month in a row... won it last month with that gold gilted Maine cuff button. * whew! That was some squeezins' right there. There is no meeting next month, but in August there will be a double Best Find of the Month competition. I'll give it my best shot.
