:csflag: I got robbed! ...

Well here's the skinny... went detecting with Mountain Man and Chris Sunday. Went to a place that had given up some good relics over the years, huge pasture near the railroad tracks. Union encampment towards the end of the war. Started out using my XLT, found a cut bullet, flat button, a few whatnots. Then I switched over to the DFX with a big 12" coil. The DFX has been acting weird for about 5 months, and I have been using the XLT. But decided to use the DFX Sunday; thing always was a bit yancy. Wouldn't ground balance. Tried 2 coils, then it wouldn't pinpoint. I didn't find this out until I had been detecting about an hour and a half without receiving ANY signals... no not one. I realize now that I detected that hour and a half with a malfunctioning detector. No doubt I passed over at least 6 Confederate belt plates, 14 Confederate buttons and 2 artillery shells. Anyway, that will be going off to Whites for repair. So that's my first "I got robbed..."

My second "I got robbed" is today I get this great signal, VDI 90. Dig down about 8" and start pulling out period Civil War leather with rivets attached. Continued to dig pulling out hunks of leather and loose rivets. Thinking I've got a belt or breast plate, I finally clean the hole out and it just ends up being 6 rivets; must have been spread out enough to give a good signal. No belt plate, no breast plate... I got robbed.

Then a little while later, I get a nice button signal. Luckily the ground was moist and soft. Dug down 9" and retrieved this remains of a Union eagle coat button. You can see the shield and part of the wing... I got robbed.

Sunday I get a nice deep signal, retrieve what looked like a 1 piece flat button with something on the front. I'd left my little brush in the truck and couldn't clean it. Met up with Chris about 1/2 hour later, used his brush to discover that I had found a WW1 great seal button... this is hunting a place that dates back to the 1700's... I got robbed.

Did manage to squeeze out another whole Spencer.

Also got a weird bullet, you can see it next to the Spencer with a tapered base. It's not in the Civil War book I have. Mangled bullet to the left of that is the carved bullet.

Well, if there is an award for "Spoon of the Month", I got that covered with the big horker up top. Anyway, these are the digs for the last 2 outings. Big white thing on the bottom is a porcelain door knob. The round thing upper left is a reins guide goes on horse harness for a team of horses.
