:csflag: Gobs of bullets...

[size=large]Went to a field I hit about 2 years ago, found a few bullets then and I was finding a few bullets today.

[size=large]Then I hit the "Bullet Abyss". Circled are the bullets you can see in this one shovel load of dirt, ended up with 20 bullets and about a dozen percussion caps in this one hole. When I first got the signal I dug it knowing it was a bullet; when I saw the bullet it was covered in black gun powder. I thought to myself, "Hmmm... last time I dug a bullet covered in gunpowder there were a whole bunch more with it." I put the bullet back in my pouch, put the plug back in the hole, and as always swung over the hole before I moved on... got another bullet signal. Opened the hole back up and took out 19 more bullets.

[size=large] Beautiful sunset on the way home... there's nothing better than a heavy pouch an a nice sunset.

[size=large]Here's this evening's take. Because of all the gunpowder on the bullets, they didn't clean up exactly pristine. But they do have character. I'm hoping the long flattened bullet (upper left hand corner) is a Whitworth; any ideas?

Thanks for looking,
Vernon

[size=large]To load the musket; the bottom of the powder sack was bitten or torn off and powder dumped into the barrel. Then the Minie ball with paper attached was stuffed in the end of the barrel (the paper acting as a wad) then ram rodded down the barrel onto the powder charge.
