:csflag: First day out with the Garrett AT PRO.....

[size=large]Lately, I've sold off some of my detectors because there's a couple new ones I wanted to get. One was the Whites TDI SL, which I bought new last week. The other detector I wanted was the Garret AT Pro. I just received it yesterday, I bought it used but like new with 18 months warranty still left. Anyway, thought I'd give it a whirl today. Took it to a place that had been pounded for nearly 40 years, there's still relics there but they're deep. Got a faint beep with the AT, running in the Pro mode, with full sensitivity and iron set at 30. First bullet was 12" deep, ended up with 7 more, all of them 12-13" deep; even the percussion caps were 3-6" deep. Over all, I like the AT Pro. I think it's a keeper and one of the best detectors Garrett has come out with (in my humble opinion). My biggest complaint today about the Garrett was that the bottom edge of the search coil is folded at sharp 90 degrees, and really catches the grass causing more friction than if it was rounded a little more. I can't see adding the extra weight of a coil cover for detecting in grass, a few ounces might not seem like much when you first put it on, but let's see how you feel after swinging 8 hours later. My main reason for buying the AT Pro is for water hunting, which I'm not opposed to doing in winter, either, as I used to do it in Alaska with neoprene waters with shoulder length rubber trapper gloves.

Thanks for looking,
Vernon

I have the coil cover on mine, it is only a couple of ounces but it's better than splitting the coil open. I have a smaller concentric coil that I am going to cover with bed liner to see how that works, I have heard that it works good but it does wear off a bit and needs re-application every once in a while. I have a friend who water hunts and he puts epoxy on the bottom of all his coils........after the warranty runs out.

From the land of the Bluenose.....they do give good depth. I would take it for a swim before the warranty runs out. Mine leaks and will not see water again!
