Greg and I went to a couple of spots yesterday. We looked over about 30 piles is dirt taken from the yard of a 1740's house, where an addition was being built on. I spotted this iridescent bottle sitting atop the dirt that the rains had exposed. Greg found a stone spear point and a nice clay pipe bowl. We also pick up some pretty plate shards from the 1700's ~ these may come in handy at new detecting sites to keep the land owners happy when they receive a nice little display box with some artifacts and relics in them.

After that, it was out into the just-cut relic fields. About ten minutes into the hunt, I got a good signal. Hey Greg, you might want to come check this out... an 1830's militia button, looks like a lot of silver gilt is still on it. I'll clean it later. Also got a bayonet scabbard tip. Mountain Man got three bullets and a couple flat buttons, and an old ring.

Here's the militia button cleaned up, still retaining over 90% of the silver gilt.

Since it was getting hot, Greg took us to a place where we could detect in the shade of pines. Used to be an encampment that had been logged over and replanted in pines. The relics were still hiding in the area. Started out finding some bullets, melted lead, then got this equipment hook.

Found this well-made silver dogwood flower at the Civil War encampment. One of the petals was bent under, and at first I thought it was a clover leaf corps badge. Its not, but still very cool.

Here's my digs for the day. Brass thingy at top is bayonet scabbard tip, couple small percussion caps.
