Vernon in Virginia~Formerly Alaska

Well, Dave made it into the ranks as a bona-fide Civil War relic hunter on his first day detecting in Virginia. His first good find was the top part of an 18th century parasal. Dave theorized that it was lost during the Civil War by the 69th San Francisco Parasal Division while they skipped by in formation.... what a grand sight that must have been.

Dave's first REALLY GOOD find was this brass trigger guard off of a Civil War Enfield rifle... not bad for a beginner, and we all know Elson could have done it too.

Later in the day, we met up with Mountain Man after he got off work and he took us to the "Promised Land" (you can read about the Promised Land in my upcoming story I wrote for American Digger magazine ~ get your subscription today!). In the above photo Dave was in hot pursuit of his first Civil War bullet. His quest was interrupted temporally when he found this danged Union eagle button. It is a Civil War eagle button with a C in the shield (designated Cavalry), in really nice shape with a lot of gold attached.

Soon after that I heard through my headphones an excited, high pitched girly scream come from across the field. I looked up and saw Dave doing some kind of really weird Egyptian dance in the grass. Dave had found his first Civil War bullet, a 44 Walker pistol bullet. Dave "Dances With Bullets" was now a bona-fide relic hunter.

After he calmed down and smoked a cigarette, (he doesn't even smoke) Dave had his second Civil War bullet in his trembling hand.

The above photo is David's relics finds for yesterday... not to shabby.

A slightly blurry photo of his Union eagle button with "C". Stay tuned for the rest of; "Dave's Big Adventure".
