My old NY Excal is gone the way of all mechanical devices with time and lots of use (and perhaps some abuse!!).

Splicing the coil cable worked beautifully!! The Sweet little butterfly coil worked like a charm!!

Now all I needed was a connector to allow me to switch coils!!

Double and triple checked all wire connections and found all work flawless!!

Power on, a flash of light, a puff of smoke and I can never hunt with the old girl again!!

There is a great temptation to bury the her at sea, but she will likely just end up in the land of departed detectors and sweet memories.

Any of our Friends or Fellow Hunters along the Connecticut shore that wish to view the remains can contact me for calling hours.

Thanks all for your advice and your generosity in shareing tips along the way.

One Sad Old Ex Excal Owner,

CJ

Have you decided to make it an organ donor?

After all, the ends and plastic tube have value. The knobs have value and the pots can be re-used. The battery pack has the Ikelite ends. I'll bet there are tons of folks who need a part and are just waiting for a good donor to appear. That flash of light and smoke was the soul of the detector leaving earth for detector heaven!

Yeah it is sad.....but.....there is the excuse to get a new one!

Finderskeepers is right, and I have a recipient that that is on a organs, waitlist, if you're interested in saving an old Excalibur or you want to sell your organs you can PM me she's in need.

So sorry to hear of the demise.

I am sure I am not the only one who would be interested in the battery pod. I have exactly one for my one Excal (that happens to be one of the NY Excalibur's with the square flange on the battery pack, not the slanted side newer type).

Many good parts left.
Respectfully,
tvr

So sorry for your loss, Dont all dead detectors go to Ebay? I am sure you will think of an appropriate resting place...maybe you should bury her at the spot where she first brought you joy, with some sort of metal placard so if she is ever found in the future by one of us, we can respectfully let her rest in peace, and think of our old pal Cupajo.

Many thanks for your kind replies Friends!

I'm sure that after a suitable period of mourning I will find another wonderful Hunting Partner, but there can only be one first Excal!!!

GL&HH Friends,

CJ

thats funny and sad all at the same time.....im sure she paid her own way and left you more assets than debt.......i almost thought i did the same thing to my ex-1000 the other day....it was working fine until control tube went under water and then it gave one loud signal and quit.....i took it out of the water ,unplugged the battery and replugged it back in tighter....it worked ok after that.....mine owes me a little more gold till we are even... hope this brings you comfort at this difficult time lol lol....

Sorry to hear that Cupajo... its always saddening when a detector has ran its course but I'm sure you still have the ol' trusty Dual Field. Actually I was kind of shocked that you had a minelab after all those finds with the Whites, I don't feel so bad myself now for having a minelab but my Whites is still my most trusted.
