My old NY Excal is gone the way of all mechanical devices with time and lots of use (and perhaps some abuse!!).

Splicing the coil cable worked beautifully!! The Sweet little butterfly coil worked like a charm!!

Now all I needed was a connector to allow me to switch coils!!

Double and triple checked all wire connections and found all work flawless!!

Power on, a flash of light, a puff of smoke and I can never hunt with the old girl again!!

There is a great temptation to bury the her at sea, but she will likely just end up in the land of departed detectors and sweet memories.

Any of our Friends or Fellow Hunters along the Connecticut shore that wish to view the remains can contact me for calling hours.

Thanks all for your advice and your generosity in shareing tips along the way.

One Sad Old Ex Excal Owner,

CJ

There may be someone on the forum who is versed in DCPR .......( Detector CPR ) and can revive the old girl ....... Ask around !!......So sad to hear .... I heard that those old NY Excal were wonderful !!...JIm

A puff of smoke,in the end that's the way the wife says she's gettin rid of me....

What do you plan on replacing it with? Surely there was a plan a, b, c etc.?

Thanks for your replies Friends!

The Excal was my wet sand/dry sand machine.

One day when I can swing it I want a Sovereign GT.

GL&HH,

CJ

I am interested in this for parts as well...let me know?

Thanks Sven!

I had much the same display of destruction without the music. When I pulled the circuit board a couple of componenets dropped out verifying my worst fears-----------my Excal was toast!

There is no mistaking the smell of burnt electronics.

One day I hope to try one of the newer models, but for now I'll muddle through with one of my four PI machines.

The remains of the Excal have found a final resting place with a kind gentleman and Fellow Hunter who will benefit from the surviving bits and pieces.

All of you that replied to this post with your kind words and support have my appreciation.

Thanks GH for your suggestion, but as of this moment I no longer own an Excal or any parts thereof.

Rest in peace Old Girl! We had a fine ride!!

CJ

CJ,

Sorry to hear the news, it's been a month since I've had a chance to get on here. You sure had our attention with your modification of using the butterfly coil on the Excal. Hopefully you will continue your experimentation as that project was a good one. Just wondering, how did it perform in the saltwater, was it stable? I need a beer after hearing of your loss. :drinking: Better luck with your next project. HH

Hi Kid,

I was destined to never know how the new coil worked in the water.

I was checking out the new water-proof connecter when the old Excal died!

I never got the new coil wet!

I would have liked to try it out water hunting, but alas-------------

GL&HH friend,

CJ
