Cruddy Sounding Pennies and Hunt

TURNMASTER

Active member
I got a hit that was 36 - 38 - 40 one way, sound good, iffy coming back with an occasional nice tone and iron grunt 90 degrees to that. So I dug (wouldn't you?). It was a 30s Wheat on edge with no adjacent targets. I was kind of suprised that it was not a bent nail and in fact sounded worse than some nails I have dug. I ended up digging a couple other on edge coins that almost were not there.

Seemed that I had to swing faster than normal to get the hit and then it was "Short and Quick" and not neccesarly a "whisper". That is how I could best describe it. Makes me wonder what I have been missing. Well not entirely, but...

Thursdays finds.
[attachment 162910 58.JPG] Including 14 Wheats and 2 Washington State Tax Tokens. 5 buttons, were all in the same hole.

Nice hunt. I have wheaties to bounce all over the place . I dig all signals that bounce above 27. Alot of my indians read 27.

I do not hit very many 28 to 32 that are not zinc

I just realized I said 27 I should have said 28 ooops. Most of the 28 I dig are pull tabs or zincs, but I have dug 2 or three indians that gave a 28. 32 are usually screw caps for me , but do get an occasional zinc or wheatie . It depends on how deep, rarely is it a wheatie for me only once or twice. If there is iron close to the target I have had coins to bounce all over the place. I hunted a so called hunted out spot a few weeks ago and had two different nickels bouncing from 8 to 20's when I dug them up they had nails in the same hole. Both coins were only about a foot from a side walk I and many others had walked right over them . That day I said to myself I was going to dig good tones no matter the numbers and I dug to 1940's nickels and a 19 something wheatie. If the x-terra gives a high tone and low tone you can bet there is something else in that hole with some iron. I would put my x-terra up against any detector except explorer or etrac. Goes4ever found all those silvers and I have started using his method and my coin finds have went way up . Yes I do dig more trash , but I dig more coins also. Oh I forgat those are some nice tokens you found. I have only found a couple of tokens over the years.

I usually pass on 2 - 4 - 6. Especially if back and fourth to negative numbers, maybe I should dig some more of those.

Yeah I pass on those also. They have never paid off for me.
