Hit the trail with "Lucky Lee" and my bud the Cladman to see if we could sneak up on a couple of oldies. I don't have pics of what they dug but Lee hit the only silver with a 1780s halfreale. <img src="/metal/html/super.gif" border=0 width=26 height=28 alt=":super">

You should say that more often CC. Sweet finds once again!
The rookie

The metal strap that fixes a gun barrel to the wooden stock. If it is small it could be from a pistol rather than a musket.
The rest of the finds are superb as well.

Fred

Thanks Fred.
That was also my first impression, it being some type of gun hardware. I have found several brass pieces (side plates, escutcheons, trigger guards etc.) but this is part made of iron.

The one below the iron object, the 2nd item down on the left. It looks like lead, and I've dug a couple ones similar to that, hole in the top and all. Any idea what it is?
Pete in Virginia

Hey Pete,
I believe these are early crude net weights for fishing. Most sites I find them are near the water and date from mid. 18th century to early 19th.
