Crown caps

How does the Etrac do with crown caps. They hit on my other detector with a VDI of a quarter. I just sold the V3i and that machine was a good park hunter and I could tell a crown cap from a quarter 95% of the time. Does the Etrac fair the same or is it like most detectors? Enjoy reading this forum and the photos and videos..

Thanks for your time

The dreaded 12-39 signal. Every time I get a 12-39 it's a twist cap. I've never had a problem telling a quarter signal from a cap signal. Quarters hit in the 12-27, 11-47/49 range.

They do not even make a blib in the factory coins mode and never id like a quarter like they do on most other makes of machines with a dd coil.

It depends on the cap. Most of them read as 12-39 on my E-Trac, but there seems to be one type that reads as a dime.

I have not dug any yet. Just seems like you can tell the difference.

If you are really having a lot of problems with bottle caps the E-Trac has a bottle cap disc. program where you can take them out. IHs sometimes come in 38-39 cond. numbers but tone is different. HH :minelab:

The etrac doesn't fair as well as the V3i when to comes to rejecting/IDing the caps. Most caps will ID say at the 38/39 CO area. There are some that will read higher (41/42). Also, I've read even the V3i has problems with the corona caps. They seem to be made out of a higher quality alloy. I haven't had my etrac exposed to the corona caps, as far as I know, so I can't comment on first hand experience with them. There is a tonal quality difference between most caps and memorial cents; however when hunting in trash or overdriving the etrac with manual sensivity the tonal quality difference is more difficult to hear.

Crown caps are what were used on glass bottles of soft drinks and still are on glass beer bottles. They are made of steel and sound off on most machines with double D coils as well as id as a quarter. However the E-Trac ignores them in disc mode and they are not any sort of issue whatsoever.

Typically on my E-Trac they come in at a 12-40 average, there is one spot I hunt I have virtually given up digging that number. After more experience with them you can sorta tell if they are going to be a crown cap, signal seems to be a bit more "scratchy" than "smooth". Now at old sites you still dig that number because a lot of the earlier wheat cents and tokens come in that range.

Those? I never dig those, the E-Trac does an excellent job of discriminating them. The aluminum screw caps (like cheap wine caps) read pretty dang high. That is what I was thinking about.

Yes you have it right that is what I am talking about but if you dis them out don't you dis out quarters?

As I mentioned they are completely disced out in the factory coins mode but about every American coin I know of will still sound off loud and clear.I have owned and used the V3, F75 quite a lot and they are not even in they same park with the E-Trac on crown caps. The E-Trac does not even make a blip on them while hitting all normal US coinage.I have dug many nice sounding coin hits and recover the properly ID ed coin with one or more rusty crown caps in the same hole.I even have an after market coil for my E-Trac that will completely ignore a bottle cap but will give a nice high tone when a silver dime is placed directly under said crown cap and the two are not touching at all.
If you are wanting an old coin machine for parks the E-Trac is the best hands down of all the commonly found here in the USA top end machines. The E-Trac does not id fringe depth coins as iron like many other machines.
It is no slouch as a relic machine either unless you are in extreme red clay or similar type soil.

it must have something to do with the "multi" low frequencies
it shoots in to the ground!..'the aussies" do indeed have a unique
product, and so far they are home free, because other manufacturers
cannot infringe on their patents it will be interesting to see what (f.t.)
has developed when their new multi is released!..just sayin'

They haven't patented the FBS technology. If they did it would reveal how they do it and it would be stolen and copied anyway. Must be a tough nut to crack because it's been out there almost 10 years IIRC and noone else has anything close to it.

Yes Ray in one park they tend to come in at that numbers, why I am not sure, could be soil consistency or what ever. I generally go by the sound and depth to determine if to dig. I have dug some of them along with a good target in the hole just because of the sound. It is strange this park can have silver at 2" and zincs at 6" It was an apartment complex for many years before they tore it down so the ground has been major disturbed. My wife found a beautiful Merc here on top of the ground in a puddle where the torrential rain the night before washed it out. I found three older wheat pennies on top of the ground, just the strangest place. A lot of silver came out of there and there is more but it is a frustrating place to hunt.

Nice words on the E-Trac and crown caps here. And I have experienced the same. The T2 and Omega hit them hard, was a pain but luckily I didn't come across many of them where I hunt. The E-Trac, so far doesn't hit on many of them, especially those older rusted ones. The V3i also ID's crown caps very well, but loses ID at depth in my iron mineralized ground. (It hits them hard but you can easily ID them from a quarter using 3 freq pinpoint.)
