Crippled Alewive

Well-known member
Found one today in water about 4 feet deep. Nice mid-tone on the CZ20 on this 4 inch long brass lure. Had to do a web search on it and found they are still made, but not by the original company. The one I found was made sometime before 1986. Crippled Alewive was invented by C.W. Roes in the late 1930s. Company was owned by the family until they sold it in 1986 and the Roes name was dropped from the lure stamping after the sale.

Trappers gloves, like the ones Cupajo has shown recently, make cold water hunting very doable. I had mine on for this hunt.
Cheers,

Very Cool find, I like it....

Always fun to turn up something different. The web searching yesterday turned up a very recent article saying these are still one of the go-to lures for the early spring rock fish season. For me, learning about the different things that turn up under the coil is just as rewarding as turning up gold ... well very close.
