Creekside Ruins, Ghost Town Stuff, Lots of Relics & a Little Silver

Well, I'm finally getting around to posting some finds from my last four hunts. <begin boring medical saga>I was out of commission for almost a month - long story short; I had some minor outpatient surgery at the end of July. A week later, the doctor sent me to the ER with a 104 temp. They really freaked out when they got a 107 deg. reading on three different thermometers. Happily, they were all wrong - tthe in-ear therm still said 104. They repeated the surgery to check for problems and kept me on antibiotic IV's for 5 days. (being in bed is only fun for maybe one day, especially if you're kinda hyper to begin with). They released me on Monday. Tuesday, I woke up with a 102 temp which went up to 103 by 2pm, even with ice packs and drugs. Around 3pm, I walked the short distance to the kitchen- by the time I got there, I was completely drenched in sweat. Then, my heart starts doing the bossa nova. I sat down and called my neighbor to see about watching the Tigger again. I passed olut while on the phone, just for a couple minutes, came to and said 'screw this' and called 911. They couldn't get my heart to stabilize - their monitor was reading 240 bps (impossible, but that's what it was trying to do). Back to ICU for a day and then 4 more days of every antibiotic they could stuff in an IV on a rotating schedule. None of the tests came back with anythng, and believe me, they were sucking more blood than a twilight flick. The moral: if you don't want to get sick, stay away from the hospital!!! I feel great now, though I'm still building my stamina back up - laying in bed for days really zonks you (saw a lot of the Olympics, though!) < /boring medical saga>

I hit my old favorite ghost town once and the Chinese Gardens ruins on the creek 3 times.
Here's one of the adobe ruins at Chinese Gardens:

I found the case to an old "Magic Lantern" (it was flat when I found it, slowly 'squaring it up') and part of an old brass scale. The bottom reads 'G.S.&H. Co., Chicago, April 17, 1894, November 30, 1894" and "Gilfillan Scale & Hdw. Co., Chicago". I think you can read the plate on the magic lantern.

I found a 1907 (plain) Barber dime (at Chinese Gardens)- it's worn practically smooth, but I'm very happy to have it! The 1941 wheatie was found nearby. The ornate brass item is interesting - it appears to have hung on something and has a little clip on the front. The text in the box reads 'pat july 6, 1875'. Nothing on the back. Any ideas?
One happy surprise while I was recuperating was that one of the spoons from a previous creek hunt turned out to be sterling (shown in pic, .9 oz., better than a poke in the eye!). Also, I found a partly melted bracelet that looked like it might be a pipe end, but turned out to be sterling as well (.65 oz). Other favorite finds include the silver plated cowboy belt buckle, the vintage copper souvenir ashtray from Tucson, Arizona in the shape of an arrowhead (& I found it in the middle of one of the stone ruins), and the pocket watch backs of Mickey Mouse (Ingersoll) and the old railroad locomotive (#703:geek:. I haven't researched the A.R.C. insignia (no pinback, but may have had one at some point) or the rectangular plate at the top center - Girl Scouts, do you think? It was part of a metal box or plaque- rusty rivets on back.

It was a good week for bottles, I hit a couple of nice patches that the elements and target shooters missed. There's a lot of text on them, sorry, too tired to deal with it, but I certainly like the all the colors and shapes - feel free to ask if you see anything interesting.

and you know I like marbles

Some of the cooler iron - I really like the home-made chopper - that's a lead handle on both sides of the back.

& a few milliion buckles, buttons, rivets, lipsticks, razors.... (I toss the buttons in a jar - the variety is amazing) & some household items:

Some clock parts and keys (I like that skeleton key) and some cutlery- all plate and junk, but I like the old knife and the item to it's right - the 'blade' slides in & out - there was an iron covering at some point - no idea...

Of course, I collected a bunch of copper, brass & etc. - around 15# total.

While I was digging to China (intended-hah), you'll be glad to see that Tigger was using his time productively:

Hope I haven't bored you to tears, heh,
Best of luck in the hunt to all!!!

Marbels....do kids even PLAY with marbels anymore?
For me it seems like years ago...actually it HAS been years ago.:)-)
Salida

Excellent finds, William! Glad you are doing better...like you said, hospitals sometimes can be the worst place for a sick person.

You're right Salida, kids don't play with marbles anymore. Considering how many marbles I've dug up, and how obviously none of them were the intended target, kids used to play with them a whole lot.

Wow, you've got some really productive sites! Glad you're doing better, those doctors and hospitals can be rough on a guy.

I've still got a big jar of marbles, many of which I won playing them as a kid. I was pretty good. Gonna have to dig them out sometime and look at them. Stomping around the woods, playing marbles, shooting BB guns and swimming in a swimming hole, those were our video games. I think we're better for it!

Thanks, guys, I appreciate the comments and good wishes. Sailorman - I totally agree that we were lucky to grow up when we did - playing hard outside until our moms made us come in (covered in dirt - some things never change :goodnight: ), trick or treating as far as our legs would carry us, roaming the woods and parks at will - I feel kind of sorry for kids now.

That is some great assortment of relics you got there, William!! Sorry to hear them ol' Sawbones were trying their best to put you under the dirt, but glad to hear you outfoxed them. And that Tigger, oh man!! Cats always look so comfortable, makes me jealous sometimes!!

Lots of variety in that:detecting: excursion.
Good find i'll agree with.

Thanks, guys. I didn't mention that I've been running the AT Gold down there - with the 5x8 and 44 iron discrimination I've been able to hunt areas that had stymied me before.
BCD: yep, I'm coming back as a cat!
