"Creaking Shaft"

I really enjoy my Tesoro Silver, but I have noticed that the shaft and/or handle makes a creaking sound when I swing it. The joints seem to be tight, but this can be a little annoying in between targets. Of course it doesn't bug me when I'm busy digging the good stuff, but only when nothing much is happening. The machine is only about a year old, and I haven't abused it at all, but I have found lots of good items with normal usage. Then again, it could be my own old worn-out bones creaking, don't know.........Any similars?

The creaking may be where the aluminum shafts join. That's just below the control box. Pull apart and wrap tape one time around the inner shaft, then slip back together again. Makes a tighter fit. Worked for mine.

A very easy fix. I have a new Silver uMax (love it) and about the 3rd. time using it I had a creaking noise. Take the upper rod out (the one that goes up to your control box) and apply a very small amount of grease on it . It solve the creaking problem and it hasn't creaked since. Don't grease the whole shaft, just the length of rod that goes into the locking collar. A small light film of grease is all that is needed. Steve.

P.S. Credit goes to Monte for this fix, he is the one that told me about it.

Grease will get rid of the creaking noise but it won't snug up the play where the pieces are joined.

I did the same fix that jabbo did. There was some play in the staff on my Cibola where the straight piece joins the 'S' piece. I did one wrap of electrical tape around the male end and that fixed it. No more creaking and the connection is snug.

Thanks, and I will use one of these techniques to solve the problem.

Electricians tape will leave gummy black residue. You are better of using something with out glue. The best thing that I found to use that is clean, easy to replace, and doesnt make a mess is plumbers tape. Just run about three windings around it, pulling it tight with each pass.

Thanks for the tips. As sturdy looking as the Tesoro shafts seem to be, I'm surprised that they creak any, but I do know that's a characteristic of them.

Chalk up another great idea by Scully.[quote Scully]Electricians tape will leave gummy black residue. You are better of using something with out glue.
