Crazy Statistics

Does anyone else keep crazy statistics on their finds? Two of my crazy statistics are:

1) Best first five coins value. $2.45

2) Number of times that first swing of the day the detector has hit a target. 8

I thought a friend and I had been the ones with crazy statistics on our finds. Like a case of spam! Another of fifty caliber machine gun ammo behind a church. So far in this hobby that my wife insisted that I get into, I have been threatened with bodily harm twice and mugged once. So far, no gunshot wounds. To be perfectly honest, I have found so far about twenty dollars worth of clads and a ton of pop cans. Being new at this hobby has been a real treat. Most people one does meet are both curious and friendly. Like I said, I am new to this hobby. I have been doing this for only two months and am still learning my MXT PRO.

Out here in the wild and woolies of Portland, Oregon. Even the cops tell me to go armed where I hunt. I have to practice with this to learn how, but it has been a real treat. Like I said before, most people are friendly and curious about what I am doing. I am moving to the outskirts of town to see if the natives are more friendly. The city parks are not worth my time with the street bums and thugs that are trying to either steal your equipment or bum you of your finds. My wife now accompanies me when I go out, someone has to watch out for me. She says I become to engrossed with the machine to watch what is going on around me. I will have to find another partner to go with soon as my other buddy has become very old and can not get out like he wants to.

Starvin,

I live just outside of Portland. I hunt PDX areas all the time. Good hunting grounds. Try switching neighborhoods. Some NE areas are real good and no bums or thugs. Try around 165th if you like parks.

Howdy Starvin,
Man , I figure you are lucky,,,
quote......(2) Number of times that first swing of the day the detector has hit a target. :geek:
For me I'd have to count the number of times " I DIDNT get a response on first swing,,"
LOL,,, and I dont think theres any really,
BTW, I am new to this too.
Anyhow,,I tend to hunt trashier areas like
Campgrounds, old mines, old homestead ares, and fishin areas.
( most of which seem to be where alot of people liked to drink beer, or liked to shoot
massive amounts of .22/ .32/.38/.45/...etc.
Oh
LOL
My first five coins would be $ .05 cents
But my best coin/find so far in 2010 is a 1901 barber dime.
well, good luck to ya,
Dusty

Hey guys, 3 years ago in June I got my first MXT. I have a Ford PU so I let the tailgate down and put the MXT together. I walked towards the rear of my property and turned on my machine GB'd it. took 1 swing and got an 18 VDI in it about 3 to 6 inches down. Pinpointed and started digging. Picked up a nickel. Swung 5 more times and dug up a nickle each time for a total of 6 nickels 2 were "42, and '43 nickels. can't beat that. Last Friday I got my Birthday present. A new MXT Pro, took it out to the soccer fields, set it up in C@J. And on the 2nd swing I got a dime, quarter, dime hit. The first dime was down about 3 ". The quarter 6 to 7". The 2nd dime 4". LOVE THESE MXT''s. Now I'm saving all my find's for a new DX-1 pinpointer. Hope you guys enjoy your MXT's as much as I have mine. :jump:
Have found over $900.00 since I started MDing 3 years ago out at our sports complex. I'll be 76 years of age next Sat, and the exercise from MDing is great for me. Good luck and HH Kay C

i'm interested to know also as to where to avoid the problem areas in portland. lived there 40+ yrs. so know where not to live. but not which parks to not hunt. things are getting worse in sodom. thats why the wife and i moved out of portland. i sure won't hunt with-out people around or a partner. especially my dog.

I am glad to see others have something of a problem like I do. I can tell you my worst areas in Portland So far. South East Parks in the close into town areas. Why? More street people and getting worse by the day. I would love to try a night hunt, but I live in downtown and my wife is already raising hell because I hunt by myself. So far, I have not found a problem free area in the city of Portland. You fellas might understand that I don't want to carry a gun as this just drives my wife nuts, but the police I talk with tell me to carry one anyway. As to moving out of this town, we are considering just that. I say Grants Pass, she says Boise. Housing is a lot cheaper in Boise, especially considering that we both are on Social Security. Since I retired from The Marine Corps, we moved here because we both came from here. I told my wife that we lived in some rough countries, but my own has some problems that I can not believe are tolerated by the citizens of this State. Or Country. I don't drive at the present time because of surgery on both eyes. This limits my ability to get around to hunt other areas. Like I said before, my friend has become old, according to his joints and can not get around with me like he would like to do so. Being that we are both in our seventies, please understand.

Laurelhurst park can be interesting to hunt. Yes you can run into a transient but the hunt can be very good if searched correctly. Yes take a friend but try the bushes and low lying areas. Some silver still pops up.For safer hunting go east. Go out toward 165th. Blue Lake park (farther out)is large but a little trashy. Parkrose Dist. is very safe. Watch out for interference from overhead powerlines.Rooster Rock State Park you need to have a permit to hunt. The beach there is trashy but you get good targets in the summer when water is low. Best to hunt early before the beach people get there. Stay away from the lower SE blocks. Lots of trouble in that area along with some areas off of MLK. Lloyd Center/Benson High School area can be full of young kids with mischief on there minds. .I'm only 45 years old. I am six foot and 210. Most people do not mess with me. There are areas that I will not go. Don't want to press my luck.

Early AM / night hunting is a blast. You get real good pinpointing with the detector and a pinpointer with a light is a must. Remember that PDX parks are closed from 12:01 AM to 5:01 AM. Do not go into them before then. I have heard that some PDX police can be firm on this subject even with a harmless detectorist.
