Hi,
I don't post much but visit the site frequently. Thought I would contribute for a change since I finally had a decent morning.
The hunt location is a small 1/4 acer lot that has managed to escape progress. I found this site by some research but was told that
others had detected it before. It was a fairgrounds site in the early 1900's and according to old maps the lot is located at the location of a outdoor gazebo
where dances were held. I also suspect that this may also have been a large civil war camp site area. Two hunts in one! By the lack of high tones I suspect
someone had fun detecting this location. They had some much fun they left a lot of lower tone signals. Bullets and nickels and such. I'm pretty much digging any deep signal.
Today was one of those great mornings. Nice breeze and 78 degrees out. I had driven by the day before and noticed the neighbor had cleaned up a area of really
thick brush. First hit was a nice musket ball then a 12/45 signal right up against the thick brush. I knew this was going to be a good one and it was. My first barber dime (1906)! I thought it was play money at first.
Then right next to it I get a bouncing nickel like signal and dig up my first liberty nickel (1905). Party time! Now this spot is right up against the rest of the thicket that had not been cleared, but that wasn't stopping
me I decided to do some commando detecting. On my hands and knees in I went. If it wasn't for my Thermacell I would of been eaten alive by mosquito's. Bottom line I managed to find 3 more liberty nickels in that brush.
I'm sure there are more in there but I need to bring some pruners with me to get into some of the thicker spots. I hope the neighbors don't see me in there it will just confirm what they already think.
That guy is CRAZY! I also included a second photo of a few additional bullets I found here last fall. I had also found a really cool United Confederate Veterans button from Memphis.
I understand this was from the first reunion meeting ever held for the Confederate Veterans. Sorry about the quality of the pics, when I get them cleaned up I'll post new picks with dates.
P.s. How do you clean nickels? Ketchup?
