hello to all,
hi, im from ireland, and ive been metal detecting for a few years. i have a sovereign XS-2 and i hunt on the beaches, for gold in rivers, and in fields for old coins.
i would love to start diving to detect, but i don't know where to start! i will be joining a local scuba club later on in the year, but where do i go once i have my trainning done?
how do i find the right places, and how would i find a reck worth diving down to!!!!?
thanks for any help or suggestions,
john

The training you will receive is really only basic scuba instructions, if you are serious about diving wrecks, which will be much deeper, not to mention much more dangerous, you will need more advanced classes, open water certification and so on. Although once you do complete your first class and get certified you will be able to rent the necessary gear for underwater metal detecting. The most important thing to do is get the training and be patient, start out slow as to not endanger yourself, find someone possibly in your area that has experience in the type of treasure hunting you are interested in. Hope this helps. Law.

Hey everybody my first post :)

i actually found this site looking for stuff about treasure diving, im glad there is an entire forum of people who do it!

so as not to steal the subject, heres some advice from myself:

I just got Open Water certified last month and this past week i was advanced open water certified (which probably doesnt mean anything special to anybody but PADI) and im looking into wreck diving and treasure diving as well.

from what ive gathered myself, you should get some dives under your belt, just recreational dives, and get some experience with wrecks at some point with either an instructor, or a group. i would also recommend if you want to get very serious about this, you should get into NITROX and TRIMIX diving and eventually rebreather or CCUBA diving since it allows more dive time/ deeper dives without being as dangerous as regular air.

lots of people here will have tips on gear, but first you should start with certifications and have fun diving. maybe start with a more inexpensive underwater detector, and if you get lucky with finds, as you dive, you can save up or sell your finds to get better equipment. all depends on where the dives are going to be, how deep, what might be there, and risks involved.

as for knowing what wrecks to find, i still dont know how to look for wrecks or get information on wrecks. i live in california, and im not sure how to find out what wrecks might be along the coast or on lakes etc etc.
