Crash Course on Filters

I hunted an old Church with a Cemetary Saturday and found these Coins.

I hunted it with a 4X6 Shooter. It ran great and I got good Depth.

I went back Sunday with the idea to use a deeper Coil and cover more ground. I did not take my 4X6 Shooter but took my 8X6 SEF. Using the same settings my SEF would not run. I tried lowering Sensativity on Discriminate and RX nothing seemed to help. I jacked around with it for a long time and at one point I noticed it would not even pick up a Dime on the surface. I went over a lot of prime ground knowing my Detector was running very poorly.

This is when it occurred to me to change the Filter settings. My filter was set on 7 High Pass for the Shooter and I changed it to 10 Band Pass. This seemed to help but it was still Chattering like a Gay Chipmonk. I then changed it to a 12.5 Band Pass to find that it was running smooth, quiet, and deep. I was hitting Dimes between 8 and 9 inches. I guess it has to do with swing speed but I was completely satisfied after selecting that filter.

I didn't find anything worth mentioning Sunday but I was satisfied that I did not miss anything once my detector was setup right. Thinking about trying the 10X6 Eclipse. Anybody had experience with it on the V3i?

The 6x8 SEF is more prone to EMI and so is my 10x12 SEF. Glad you could find a solution and have success. :clapping:Right now I don't have a 6x10 but I have owned them. I never thought the 6x10 was a depth monster but it seperates well. On the Whites forum the 6x10 is a favorite of many users.

As long as the 10X6 is a little Deeper I am good with it. I just need to get just a little deeper and cover more ground in a few places. I bought a 10X6 but so far I have not been to a place where I could run it. While I am on this question is there some secret other than buying a new lower rod to change coils quickly. I bought a Sunray so this just aggravates the problem of getting the wire wrapped correctly. Love that Sunray though. I may sell my Pin Pointers. I am off to hunt an old house again and my time is limited as to how long I can hunt it. It is up for sale.

I don't believe the 6x10 is deeper than the 6x8 SEF. But that is what I remember and I have no stats to back it up.
