Cracking problem solved?

I'm interested in purchasing an Explorer XS, but with all the reports of cracking I've been leaning toward a DFX. I think the XS has better electronics, but I'm worried about the cracking problem.
Has Minelab solved the cracking problem on the new ones coming out?
What is Minelab doing for those people that have an Explorer that has cracked? Do they have to send them in? How long does that take, if so?

I hear they came out with a fix.. dont know if all the new stock has been replaced with it yet though.. Im still going strong with mine thats been cracked for the last 6 months.. Im sure it will last till winter, so its really not that big a problem.. most guys I hear it takes about 10 days turn around time..

Hello from Western Australia.I had a cracking problem with my EXplorer XS,too.Phoned minelab, they said to send it c.o.d. They replaced the control housing with the new housing.
All good now.
Regards
Steven

I sent an e-mail to Minelab. Their response said that the improved models have been shipping since February. The checklist that came with mine is dated 03/04/01, and I absolutely do not have any cracks. I also have the newer software version dated 09/20/01.
