Crack in excalibur coil

Minelab Excalibur Technology rocks, but the quality sucks! Anyone experience this with the coil on their detector? The other day while hunting, I noticed my detector acting erratic after getting home I notice the 10

Goldscav...I tried silicone sealer and it seemed to peel of at the most inopertune time.
I don't like to use coil covers either.
This works good for me and is tuff stuff, once you get it on you won't get it off. Dupli-color, truck bed coating and got it at Walmart and applied with small cheap brush. I did rough up the surface with emery cloth. Apply two or three coats and overlap the edges and should work fine.
Good luck, Chuck SWF

Working on my second Excaliur myself. Got my first one in early 2003. Arm cup broke, headphones, malfunctioned, knobs were freespinning. When the lower rod attachment broke I called Minelab and got a brand new one sent to me and got some waterproof Gray Ghost head phones installed for free, only had to buy the headphones. Talk to Steve Decaney at Minelab in Las Vegas. He'll take good care of you.
Hope it works out for you.

Chuck,
Thanks for the info unfortunately I am stationed here in Italy and no Walmart around.
Hopefully I can find something similar.
Thanks again, GS

I got my Excal 1000 back from Minelab at the end of last season. I sent it in with a threshold problem. By the time Minelab was finished working on the machine, they had replaced the coil, all the knobs, the main circuit board, and the battery. About the only thing they didn't replace was the outer plastic case. It costs so much for Minelab repairs that I wonder if it's worth getting a machine fixed or is it better to just buy a second hand unit as a replacement.
