Couple X-70 questions

Dirt Poor

New member
Hello everyone! It's been awhile. I am liking the 70, but would like to know if it's totally necessary to put the machine in all-metal to GB. It seems to "go through the motions" when I get GB on menu, and then hit the auto button. Sometimes it seems hard to flip the machine back to mode 1 after switching to all-metal. I have the stock coil and the 18.75 6" one, but if there is a better one for deep relics, I may want to buy one. I've heard a feww good and bad things about the 10" coil, and if it's not much difference, I'll just keep what I have. It blows my mind that the 70 doesn't have an adjustable disc. switch, but in mode 1, it works great against iron!!

I have never switched my unit it to AM while GBing. Hope I'm doing it right! Interested in what the feedback may be. The 3khz coil would be deeper than the stock and may perform better than the stock for relic hunting. I have the 10.5 inch, 7.5khz and use it for both coin and relic and I'm very pleased. I did just order the 3khz and can't wait till I get it. Bill

I asked Digger a couple weeks ago the same question, Here is his reply.

Technically, you can GB in either. But in the best effort to make sure there is no metal under the coil while ground balancing, I'd recommend doing it in all metal, then switching to Pattern if that is how you are going to hunt. If you ground balanced in a Pattern mode, you can't be sure there isn't something "down there" that might interfere with a proper GB. HH Randy

Thanks, Bill! That makes me feel a little better. I'm gonna order one of those coils, too.

It does have a adjustable disc . While in a pattern hit up or down arrows until you get to the number you want to disc out then hit reject and it will be discriminated out. I have pattern 2 set up with all numbers below 8 rejected and a couple in the 20's rejected . I hunt mostly in all metal and pattern one.

Thanks! The owner's manual isn't very user-friendly, in my opinion, and I didn't realize you could disc. out like most other machines. My goal is to get max depth for CW relics.
