Hello all,
I just got my MXT and have a couple of questions???

1. What is ground mineralization and what does it mean for me?
2. How do I find out what is the GM in my area.
3. When do I ground balance? Every time I turn it on? How do I know its GB. Air to ground than pump?
4. What does clad refer to?

Thanks
DT

dt im not a pro by any meens, but ill help with what i can. first clad refers to any coin after 1965 see from 64 and under coins were made orf silver 90% after 64 they were not so they are made of clad dimes quarters halfs etc. as for the ground balance ,like you said when you turn your machine on just pump it on the ground and the mxt will automatically set this for you. the mxt is great for this especially for us beganers. im sure some of the pros will answer your questions better when they get a chance. happy hunting

1. What is ground mineralization and what does it mean for me?

Ground mineralization is the conductive minerals in the ground (Iron, copper, etc.) that will have a negative effect on the performance of your detector. The more mineralization, the less depth. The MXT adjusts to the mineralization quickly and automatically, however, the higher GM areas will give just about any VLF machine a hard time.

2. How do I find out what is the GM in my area.

Your MXT will give you a number regarding the GM. You can ask some of the others on this site how to do it, I haven't learned because it just isn't that important to me.

3. When do I ground balance? Every time I turn it on? How do I know its GB. Air to ground than pump?

You don't even need to pump the coil. All it will take is a few sweeps and your MXT will be ground balanced, at which point, you may want to lock your GB.

4. What does clad refer to?

Clad is the term used for the process of taking two kinds of metals and making a "sandwich" so that a coin might be made. Why the mint makes clad instead of single metal coins, who knows? The government must have had it's reasons .

This based on information sent to me by Jeff Foster. I always save info from he and Monte. With the MXT you can find a why to determine the soil minerals in (coin inches) using the method in Jeff's book. The phase reading does not tell you how mineralized the soil is, read 10.

(1) Mineralized soil is soil that contains stuff to which a metal detector

I see that your questions were answered. You're going to love your MXT DT. There's a lot of info in the past posts and if you can't find what you're looking for, we're here to help out. I would say that this forum has one of the best group of people on it and are always willing to lend a helping hand. Happy Hunting, Nancy

Thanks for the help. My issue was I keep hearing these words on the post and was not sure what they were or how the effect the hobby. If it comes up repeatedly it must be important. This does clarify my questions. Thanks for the post and the help again. Good group of people here that's for sure. You guys are awesome thanks
DT.
