Beautiful. The button with the block I had been on my bucket list for some time, as over 40 years. This is a Confederate, or a (Confetrit') cast I button. One of my favorite CW buttons. They are so cool. When you find one of these, you know for certain that you have a Confederate button. The Eagle Shield button with an A in the shields center, is a Federal or Union Artillery button. These were of course worn by Yanks. If you find an Eagle button with a plain shield, these are known as "general service buttons". An Eagle Shield button with letters in the center are as follows: C is for Cavalry, A is for Artillery, and I is for Infantry. It describes what branch of service the soldier was in. The button next to the block or cast I button may be from the War of 1812. It looks as if it pre dates the Civil War. You have some very nice buttons there. Congrat's.

This is fun to imagine just how the Confederate button made it's way to Ct. My guess would be that perhaps a Union soldier returned home from the war with a souvenir from the war. He may have taken a button from a prisoner, or maybe exchanged one of his buttons for this one. Always fun to imagine and think about. It is a very cool button and artifact or relic from the CW.
