Thought that I would remind all the newer detectorists that all of us dig lots of junk. It's part of the hobby! Junk is good! If you dig junk, then you are digging good targets too.
My first stop today was this old picnic place, where people used to congregate after church on Sundays and holidays. I have been researching this place for a couple of years. Today I spoke with the farmer, who used to own the land. I managed a ring and coins from the 40's on up. Also got a " 51" US Wheat Cent. I spent about 4 hours here using the GTI 2500. I would like to return again, perhaps in the fall to work some of the trails here. Great weather too!
Here's a pic of the picnic grove finds. Not too shabby. It appears people are still using this site today, as there is the usual fire pits, litter and broken glass.
Next stop was a lake. I forgot to take a picture. Had a nice sunset over the water too! The "AQUA ACE" managed 5 coins out of the water. I knew Garrett's read 2 x quarters as 50 cents, but I didn't realize that Garrett's also find 20 dollar bills. While trying to retrieve a junk target (turned out to be a sinker), I noticed bits & pieces of a twenty dollar bill in my scoop. I couldn't find the missing pieces to complete the serial, as the bank supposedly gives you have the bill's values with the complete serial number. There were holes in the sand and it was obvious that someone was here recently, with the same thing in mind. Not a problem. If there was a ring, the 'AQU ACE" was have found it.
I did a land hunt around the lake with the GTI 2500. I got a little clad and another ring. Great finds said I!
Here are the best finds of the day. A 1959 silver dime and a couple of rings! Heck of a day!
